Kim McGuire Death: ‘Hatchet Face’ In ‘Cry-Baby’ Dies From Pneumonia

Kim McGuire was only 60-years-old when she had to face death. McGuire died on Wednesday, September 14, after a struggle with pneumonia. Kim’s death was unexpected, and resulted from treatment she received in the hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

McGuire was “placed in the ICU after landing in a Florida hospital earlier this week,” according to the New York Daily News.

Kim’s husband, Emmy award winning-actor Gene Piotrosky, told TMZ about the illness when she first had to go to the hospital with breathing problems and pain.

They didn’t know what was wrong with her at the time, and since the 60-year-old actress wasn’t doing well at home, she and Gene decided it would be better for her to be treated in a hospital.

Gene said that the “docs discovered Kim had a bad case of pneumonia and put her in the ICU,” but the recovery plan turned to tragedy. McGuire, 60, underwent treatment that caused an “adverse reaction” and ending up experiencing not one, but two, cardiac arrests after the treatment.

“Everyone who came in contact with Kim couldn’t help but smile.”

Piotrosky took to Twitter to share the sad news of Kim McGuire’s death with the world, and with all of McGuire’s many fans.

“Today is a very sad day. Kim ‘hatchet face’ McGuire my best friend, and the love of my life past [sic] away this afternoon,” Piotrowsky tweeted Wednesday. “I love you so much.”

Kim was born in New Orleans in 1955, and pursued an acting career from an early age. She was best known for her iconic role as “grotesque, makeup-enhanced Mona ‘Hatchet-Face’ Malnorowski” in the 1990 cult-hit musical for teens that starred a young Johnny Depp as motorcycle-riding juvenile delinquent, Wade Walker.

Hitting her stride with the horror side of acting, McGuire landed a starring role in the 1990 horror movie, Disturbed, and also found a place in television with the David Lynch/Mark Frost series On the Air. She continued to act professionally for some years, landing her last acting role in 1996.

After her success with movie and television acting, McGuire decided to pursue a completely different career, and enrolled in law school. Kim became a practicing attorney, and started writing books as well.

Gene and Kim had more than their share of trouble, and lost everything they had during Hurricane Katrina. The Huffington Post reports that a Go Fund Me campaign set up by the couple’s long time friend, Suzy Hixson, described the incredible experience McGuire and Piotrosky had to go through.

“Kim and Gene were living in New Orleans at the time and unfortunately lost everything in the hurricane. They actually had to swim out of their home! As one could imagine, this took a toll on both Kim and Gene mentally and physically. They lost all things dear to them and had to rebuild their life together from square one.”

Not long after the loss, Mcguire and her partner moved to Mississippi, and finally ended up in Naples, Florida. It was at that point that the former actress and lawyer began writing and publishing books.

McGuire’s death is a shock to her friends and family, and left her husband, Gene, in a bad way financially. Hixson wanted to try to ease the financial burden for Piotrosky that he has to bear after Kim’s death, and that’s why she set up the page. McGuire’s death has given all those who loved her a chance to give back on behalf of the woman they considered “sweet.”

“Anyone who met her knew she lit up a room the second she walked in.”

Rest in peace, Kim McGuire. Your death is a sad, sad day for the world.
