WWE News: Heath Slater To Sign ‘Smackdown Live’ Contract Tonight

Dreams do come true? Apparently, the answer is yes, the WWE is very good at fulfilling a wrestler’s aspirations, based on recent events.

Just within the last two weeks, dreams were made, and goals became reality. AJ Styles fought the former-WWE World champion, Dean Ambrose, at Backlash. It is already considered a Match of the Year candidate, and both WWE superstars gave their all to entertain the fans. Thanks to a referee distraction, Styles gave a low blow to Ambrose and put the Lunatic Fringe into the Styles Clash for the victory.

It was Styles’ first championship in the WWE, and it was a dream he had for many years. Many WWE fans consider the Phenomenal One as the best wrestler in the business, which isn’t an over-the-top claim.

Becky Lynch also captured her very first belt in the WWE when she won the women’s six-pack challenge for the new WWE Smackdown Live championship. She was interviewed after the match, and it was raw emotion coming from her face.

Lynch and Styles were able to obtain championship gold at Backlash this past Sunday, but it was the Smackdown Tag Team titles that brought the bulk of the WWE Universe to its feet. Heath Slater made it to the finals against the Usos after a kayfabe injury took out Chad Gable and Jason Jordan. While the Usos were using dirty tricks, it was Slater and Rhyno that were able to get the final pin, and simultaneously, the win brought gold to the babyface tag team.

Slater’s journey to the top of the Smackdown Live Tag Team division was a surprise. Not many WWE fans believed it could happen, but the WWE officials making the decisions for the blue brand made the right decision Sunday evening. So, when dreams come true makes it sounds like it’s only a cliche, Slater was able to get that double-wide trailer for his family, and he’s now on top of Tuesday night’s Tag Team division. On Smackdown Live September 13, Slater will finally sign his Smackdown Live contract.

“Heath Slater’s wife, Beulah, and their seven kids were rocking in the single-wide this past Sunday when Slater & Rhyno defeated The Usos to become the first SmackDown Tag Team Champions at Backlash. The victory not only positioned the odd couple as the duo to beat on Team Blue, but also finally secured Slater a SmackDown LIVE contract — a contract The One Man Band will sign this Tuesday night!”

The WWE Universe was watching from the beginning when Heath Slater didn’t get drafted by either brand in the WWE Draft. He was in a WWE.com exclusive segment that showed him sitting in the draft room when the lights went out. Several weeks later and after a squash segment with Brock Lesnar, Slater was beginning to gain respect from a large portion of the casual WWE audience. The Backlash crowd in Richmond, Virginia was proof of that.

If anybody in the WWE and the wrestling industry learned something, it is that Smackdown Live officials proved that someone with a minor backing could be pushed as a successful babyface. It wasn’t rushed, and they didn’t make Slater do anything foolish. He stayed with his gimmick, and the writing helped the WWE Universe connect with him on a personal level. His segments were funny, and Slater is a believable babyface that had the rug pulled out from under him by Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan.

He’s arguably Tuesday night’s most-over WWE star, and that’s because of the writing. Don’t take anything away from Slater, but the booking definitely helped. Now, the Usos may win it back soon, and that will begin the title chase for American Alpha, but for now, enjoy Heath Slater and Rhyno as the Smackdown Tag Team champions. The WWE star could get more than just a double-wide if success follows.
