The Blaze host Tomi Lahren has found herself at the center of controversy with another rant. This time, she criticized NFL plater Colin Kaepernick for not standing during the national anthem in protest.
Kaepernick is protesting against racial injustice in America. According to several reports, the U.S. Department of Justice has found evidence of racial bias at the Ferguson police station in Missouri and the same conclusion was found within the Baltimore Police Department, according to the New York Times.
Tomi Lahren has been accused of race-baiting by suggesting that Colin Kaepernick is “blaming white people” and she also brought up the NFL players mixed-race heritage and his adoptive white parents.
“How dare you sit there and blame white people for the problems of the minority communities,” stated the Blaze host. “After all, aren’t you half white? Didn’t two white parents adopt you, after yours weren’t willing to raise you?!”
Popular radio show The Breakfast Club awarded Tomi Lahren Donkey of the Day earlier this week. Radio host Charlamagne quipped back:
“Tomi, when did Colin Kaepernick blame white people for anything?” the radio host asked. “I read the 20-minute transcripts, I listened to it, he doesn’t even mention white people. He says there’s things going on in this country that are unjust and that people aren’t being held accountable for it. He said ‘People!’ He didn’t say ‘white people,’ he said ‘people!'”
The radio host then attacked Tomi Lahren for race-baiting Colon Kaepernick’s upbringing:
“He has white parents, and he’s half white, so that means he can’t speak up for minorities?” Charlamagne said. “That’s what really good God-fearing people do.”
Colin Kaepernick explained his controversial protest in an interview with NFL media.
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
Kaepernick’s protest have been met with mixed reviews. Some people support his right to protest and exercise his freedom of speech. Others perceived his refusal to stand as disrespecting the military.
#VeteransForKaepernick was trending on Twitter with many active US military personnel and veterans supporting the NFL players right to protest.
Many veterans argued that they fight for the freedom of all Americans, not some. Some veterans revealed that they are racially profiled when they are not in uniform.
Tomi Lahren’s video has been viewed over 61 million times on Facebook, and the video has been circulated on YouTube.
The 24-year old conservative commentator has courted controversy many times this year. The Blaze host criticism of Beyoncé’s performance at the Super Bowl 50 halftime show went viral with many accusing her of being racist.
She also compared the Black Lives Matter Movement to the Ku Klux Klan, which started a petition against her.
Despite her many critics, conservatives support Tomi Lahren with many offering her words of encouragement and echoing her sentiment.
Colin Kaepernick has stated that he will continue his protest and has pledged $1 million to civil rights groups, and he has stated that he is not anti-American.
“The media painted this as I’m anti-American, anti-men-and-women of the military, and that’s not the case at all,” Kaepernick said after an NFL game. “I realize that men and women of the military go out and sacrifice their lives and put themselves in harm’s way for my freedom of speech and my freedoms in this country and my freedom to take a seat or take a knee so I have the utmost respect for them.”
The NFL player has accused the media of spinning his protest in an anti-military angle.
