Kristen Bell Declares Dax Shepard ‘A Prince’ On Sobriety Anniversary

There was a time when Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard seemed to have the perfect marriage and the perfect lives. As they open up more and more about the problems they face together, Dax and Kristen are becoming more human to the rest of us. In doing so, they only provide greater reasons for their fans to adore them.

Now, Dax Shepard is giving fans an even greater reason to feel respect for him, as he shares 12 years of sobriety. Meanwhile, Kristen Bell becomes that much more endearing, as well, for the glowing support she shows for Shepard in response to his achievement.

The Boss’ Dax Shepard Proudly Celebrates 12 Years Sober

Pursuing a sober lifestyle through 12 years is no small achievement, and as E! News shares, Dax Shepard isn’t shy about expressing the pride and gratitude he feels for having reached such a milestone. The actor opened up about reaching this 12-year goal with fans in a Twitter post in which he expressed thankfulness for his family, wife Kristen Bell and daughters, Lincoln, 3, and Delta, 1.

Previously, Dax opened up about his addictions, revealing that it wasn’t just an overindulgence in alcohol that led to Shepard’s troubles, but also the abuse of narcotics, such as cocaine, opiates, marijuana, and diet and pain pills. Looking back on those days of feeding his habits, Dax realizes he lucked out in a very real sense.

“Mostly my love was Jack Daniel’s and cocaine. I lived for going down the rabbit hole of meeting weird people,” said Mr. Shepard. “Of course, come Monday I would be tallying up all the different situations, and each one was progressively more dangerous. I got lucky in that I didn’t go to jail.”

Although he doesn’t excuse himself for the behaviors his addictions influenced, Dax revealed earlier this year that he turned to alcohol and drugs to help deal with the abuse he suffered in childhood. Mr. Shepard shared that he had been molested at 7 by an 18-year-old neighbor. Dax says he recently learned that victims of child sex abuse have an 80 percent chance of becoming addicted to drugs and/or alcohol. The figure was a startling revelation for the CHiPs actor because he says memories of the abuse were never direct motivations for his partying habits.

“And I was like, ‘Hmm, interesting,’ because in my mind I just like to have a f**king great time,” he said. “But when you hear a statistic like that, I’m like, ‘Oh no, I was going to be an addict, period.'”

Bad Moms’ Kristen Bell Boasts Pride In Her Husband On Sobriety Anniversary

As revealed by the Huffington Post, much of the events in the lives of Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are shared via Twitter, so it comes as little surprise that Hollywood’s cutest couple is also sharing this latest achievement.

If anyone recognizes the struggles and obstacles Dax faced in reaching 12 years of sobriety, it’s Kristen Bell, herself. Previously, Bell has said that living with a recovering addict helped her to understand the condition for what it is. Kristen says she came to understand that it was more of a mental illness than a conscious choice to indulge in drug and alcohol abuse.

Just after Dax shared his milestone with his Twitter followers, Kristen responded with a message of her own. Bell praises her husband for sticking to his sobriety plan and shares her love and support for him.

In her previous statement, Kristen opened up about her own thoughts in regards to addiction being a mental health issue more than it is a social problem.

“They are doing it because of a variety of reasons and they deserve the attention of a mental health professional, and not the county jail or however else we’re choosing to pretend we’re fixing the problem,” said Bell.
