In September 2016, Netflix is releasing a sweeping amount of movies that’s sure to thrill audiences. Subscribers look forward each month to new titles for their viewing pleasure, and September won’t disappoint. From classic films of yesteryear to modern blockbuster hits, the titles on this list are considered some of the best movies on Netflix.

Saving Private Ryan (1998)

Blockbuster movies don’t get much bigger than the Oscar winning film Saving Private Ryan. Steven Spielberg directed this action-drama starring Tom Hanks, Tom Sizemore, Edward Burns, Adam Goldberg, and Matt Damon. The first 27 minutes of the film is known as one of the most brutal, realistic, and intense depictions of combat in cinematography history.

Saving Private Ryan takes place during the Invasion of Normandy during World War II; a group of soldiers infiltrate enemy lines to rescue a paratrooper. Saving Private Ryan is often regarded as one of the best movies of our time and it is available on Netflix on September 1.

Top Gun (1986)

In 1986, a movie was released that would become entrenched in pop culture for decades to come—Top Gun. Tom Cruise’s portrayal of Maverick and Anthony Edwards’ role as Goose provided timeless one-liners that can be heard being quoted by audiences of today. Goose and Maverick arrive to Netflix on September 1, and newer generations can learn why they feel the need for speed.

Zootopia(2016)

Zootopia has been called one of the best comedy movies of 2016, and this smash-hit animated film from Walt Disney Studios comes to Netflix on September 20. Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman lend their voices in this feature about a pair of anthropomorphic animals working together to expose a conspiracy.

Babel (2006)

Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett star in this Oscar winning film and Rotten Tomatoes provides the synopsis for one of the best movies on Netflix that arrives on September 1.

“Richard (Brad Pitt) and Susan (Cate Blanchett) are a couple from the United States who have traveled to Morocco in Northern Africa on a vacation after the death of one of their children has sent Susan into a deep depression. Richard and Susan’s other two children have been left in the care of Amelia (Adriana Barraza), their housekeeper. Amelia is originally from Mexico, and her oldest son is getting married in Tijuana. Unable to find someone who can watch the kids, or to obtain permission to take the day off, Amelia takes the children with her as she travels across the border for the celebration. Around the same time, in Morocco a poor farmer buys a hunting rifle, and he gives it to his sons to scare off the predatory animals that have been thinning out their goat herd. The boys decide to test the weapon’s range by shooting at a bus far away; the shot hits Susan in the shoulder, and soon she’s bleeding severely, while police are convinced the attack is the work of terrorists.”

U-571 (2000)

Matthew McConaughey, Harvey Keitel, Jon Bon Jovi, and Bill Paxton, star in this World War II action-thriller. Secret American soldiers board a German submarine to recover an Enigma Machine. U-571 arrives to Netflix on September 1.

Crash (2004)

Crash stars Don Cheadle, Matt Dillon, and Sandra Bullock, and was considered one of the most powerful dramas of 2004. Los Angeles is the backdrop of this interweaving story about race, loss, and redemption.

Jaws(1975)

The original Jaws, and the lesser sequels, are finally coming to Netflix on September 1. Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Richard Dreyfus and Roy Scheider, Jaws is about a great white shark that terrorizes a small island community. Jaws won three Oscars and is considered one of the best movies of all-time and it hits Netflix on September 1.
