‘Silent Hill: Book Of Memories’ Demo Coming Next Week

Silent Hill: Book of Memories, the latest installment in the long-running video game franchise, is headed to the Playstation Vita this October. According to the Examiner, the first demo of the upcoming release is rumored to be available on the Playstation Network sometime next week. Since PSN demos are generally released on Tuesdays, it’s expected that the aforementioned demo will be available for download on October 2.

Although the game bears the Silent Hill name, the latest entry in the series is a bit different than previous installments. Instead of following the protagonist around from a traditional third-person perspective, Book of Memories is more a top-down, dungeon crawling experience. Additionally, the game will feature multiplayer co-op, which will allow players to battle the inhabitants of this nightmarish world with a friend.

According to Joystiq, here is what players can expect story-wise:

“The story begins with a strange book that is received, inside that book is your entire life story to this point, everything that’s ever happened to you; all of your memories. You discover that by altering what’s written … you can actually change the past. You can write your own ideal history.”

Silent Hill: Book of Memories finds the player traversing a number of different worlds via the titular tome, areas that require a bit of puzzle-solving and some arcade skills to traverse. This, of course, is where having a Vita friend comes in handy. Instead of navigating these spooky locations on your own, friends can pop in and assist you in your Silent Hill-related endeavors. While it sounds vastly different than previous entries in the series, some change to the formula might actually do the franchise some good.

Konami is set to release Silent Hill: Book of Memories for the Vita on October 16. A tantalizing trailer for the game has been included below.
