Lorde Reveals Plans For Sophomore Album After Dissing Taylor Swift On Instagram?

Lorde has made it known that she’s completed her sophomore album, but that wasn’t after she took a harsh dig at her pal Taylor Swift, fans have claimed.

The singer was bothered by a comment from an Instagram user, who questioned her on whether there were any chances she was ever going to release another record. The user continued by alluding to the idea that they would unfollow her from all platforms if it turns out that Lorde wasn’t going to come out with a new album anytime soon.

The 19-year-old interpreted the comment as someone who is waiting for music and is, therefore, reaching out to the artist by threatening them to release new material unless they want fans to forget and unfollow them, Celeb Dirty Laundry suggests.

“Do you think we will ever get another album or should we give up on you as an artist?” the user commented on her Instagram page, leaving Lorde to say the following:

“Give up on me if you want to! I’m an artist, I write a record when I have enough special stories to tell, and it’s all me, every melody every lyric, not some team who just start the machine up every eighteen months like clockwork.”

The comment made it seem as if she was taking a slight dig at Taylor Swift, who is famously known to start production on her albums every 18 months or so. In fact, Swift’s last album, 1989, saw its release at the end of 2014, with recent reports having confirmed that the “Style” singer is now working on her follow-up record, with an expected due date sometime in 2017.

While the shady remark may not have been intentional, fans couldn’t help but see how the comment was directed to Taylor one way or another. “I’ve worked like a dog for a year making this thing great for you guys,” Lorde continued in her message, before confirming that her sophomore record is written, recorded, and currently being mixed by sound engineers, Billboard states.

With the news that Lorde has already completed the production stages of her next album, it’s very likely that this 19-year-old will be looking at a release date in the early months of 2017.

The “Royals” singer has yet to share more details regarding plans to put out another album, which will be her first release since debuting with Pure Heroine on September 26, 2013. The record is said to have sold more than four million copies worldwide, making Lorde one of the most successful acts with a debut album.

Regarding the subtle Taylor Swift shade, the “Shake It Off” singer clearly didn’t take too much offense to the Instagram comment since she’s still following Lorde on social media.

Lorde has also abstained from clearing up rumors that she was aiming her words at Taylor, who she has been close friends with for three years, presumably because she doesn’t want fans to further speculate whether or not she was discreetly taking subliminal shots at Swift or not.

Republic Records, the label backing Lorde’s next album, have yet to confirm the release of another album from the 19-year-old. Fans can expect an official press release along with early promotional work before the year’s end.
