‘Walking Dead’ Spoilers: EP Gale Anne Hurd Says Negan A ‘Gamechanger’ In Season 7, Does Abraham Die?

Warning: This article contains potential Walking Dead spoilers for Season 7.

With The Walking Dead Season 7 premiere just two months away, fans are still trying to find spoilers identifying the character Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) killed with Lucille, his barbed-wire wrapped baseball bat, at the end of Season 6.

Variety reports Walking Dead executive producer Gale Anne Hurd gave some insight into Negan’s role in Season 7 while speaking before a masterclass at the Edinburgh International Television Festival this week.

“In this new season, Negan is the gamechanger, and whatever we did someone was going to be unhappy…so we promised we will be picking up where that left off, we are not going to draw it out.”

Hurd also addressed the longevity of The Walking Dead, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

“The graphic novels are still quite a ways ahead of us. At this point, [Walking Dead comic book creator] Robert [Kirkman] has no intention of ending his creation of the underlying source material…. As long, at this point, as fans keep wanting the show, we hope to continue making it.”

While Hurd’s comments offered limited Walking Dead spoilers, the fact that actor Micheal Cudlitz (Abraham) joined her on the masterclass panel while the rest of the show’s cast is currently in Georgia filming Season 7 could provide a major clue about his character’s future. Rumors have been going around for months that Abraham — who already died in the comics, though in a different way — received a deadly kiss from Lucille. Cudlitz’s availability for Edinburgh and a slew of recent press interviews lends credence to that speculation.

Variety reports Cudlitz told the masterclass attendees that filming the infamous Negan scene, which was shot last November, was physically and emotionally difficult.

“It is a cold couple of nights on your knees in really sh-tty circumstances and knowing that someone you love and care about, it is their curtain call.”

And what about those potential Walking Dead spoilers claiming that Abraham is the one who received his curtain call? In a new interview with Popsugar, Cudlitz talks about Dr. Denise (Merritt Wever) getting an arrow through the eye, which is the way Abraham died in the comics, in Season 6 and what it means for his character’s future.

“[Denise’s] death spurs on a whole bunch of other stuff, and then the audience knows Abraham will continue for a while now. Now we get to see what a world with Negan and Abraham both in it will be like. That’s something we don’t see in the graphic novels. So a lot of cool stuff happens. For me, knowing that his potential death had come and gone, it was a moment to go, ‘Oh, cool, they really aren’t going to stick with what the graphic novel does.’ As a fan of both the novel and the show, it was cool.”

That sounds a bit more promising for Abraham. Or it could be a convincing con job by Cudlitz, who made it clear in a recent interview with Yahoo that he doesn’t like Walking Dead spoilers.

“Guess what? You don’t get to know, and you don’t get to know. Anything anyone is reporting out there is pure speculation unless they are getting information from someone who is in the cast or who is working for the company. If that’s the case, then they’re f–king a–holes anyway. You just ruined it for people who don’t want to know.”

That sounds a little bit like an actor who is tired of answering questions about his character’s death. However, as with all Walking Dead actors, Cudlitz is a master at concealing spoilers, so it’s probably best not to read too much into his statements one way or another.

What do you think of Walking Dead spoilers claiming Abraham dies? Are you afraid your favorite character will end up on the wrong end of Lucille?

The Walking Dead premieres Oct. 23 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
