Days of Our Lives spoilers have had fans anxiously anticipating the return of Kassie DePaiva’s conniving Eve Larson to Salem, but the Emmy-nominated actress just revealed her personal battle with cancer has temporarily delayed her comeback.

On her blog on Thursday, DePaiva told fans she wants “to let you know what’s been going on in my life” and explained she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in July, soon after she began filming Eve’s return to NBC’s Days of Our Lives. She spent six weeks in the hospital and must undergo another three months of treatment for the disease.

“I have a strong faith that strengthens me every step of the way. This has been a private matter but with Eve’s return coming soon, I felt it was time to let my loving fans know what’s been going on. The Days and OLTL family love runs deep. Although I’m unable to be ‘camera read’ now… my goal is [to] get back to stirring up trouble in Salem soon. Keep me in you[r] thoughts and prayers.”

Despite the serious news, DePaiva assured Days of Our Lives fans that she expects to make a full recovery.

“My prognosis is good, I will not likely need a stem cell/bone marrow transplant, and we expect a complete cure. I consider this just a bump in the road. I have amazing prayer warriors, family, and friends that have been extremely supportive and life affirming throughout this.”

According to the National Cancer Institute, Acute Myeloid Leukemia is a type of cancer that attacks blood and bone marrow.

“This type of cancer usually gets worse quickly if it is not treated. It is the most common type of acute leukemia in adults.”

Symptoms of adult AML include fatigue, fever, and easy bleeding or bruising.

“In AML, the myeloid stem cells usually become a type of immature white blood cell called myeloblasts (or myeloid blasts). The myeloblasts in AML are abnormal and do not become healthy white blood cells. Sometimes in AML, too many stem cells become abnormal red blood cells or platelets. These abnormal white blood cells, red blood cells, or platelets are also called leukemia cells or blasts.”

The disease is typically treated with chemotherapy, radiation therapy, stem cell transplants, and various drug therapies.

On her blog, DePaiva asked that Days of Our Lives fans get involved in the fight against leukemia.

“Leukemia remains a rare disease, and there is a great need for funding and donations of Stem Cells/Bone Marrow, Platelets and blood.”

The Days of Our Lives actress implored fans to save someone’s life by offering blood and bone marrow through the National Marrow Donation program. People can also donate blood and platelets at their local American Red Cross or blood bank.

Kassie DePaiva ended her post on an upbeat note.

“God’s got this!”

DePaiva is a long-time soap opera veteran, appearing on General Hospital and Guiding Light. She is best known for her 20-year stint as Blair on One Life to Live. She joined Days of Our Lives in 2014 and departed in September 2015, with her final episodes airing in February.
