Harley Quinn Smith is a part of a younger generation of celebrities and together with best friend Lily-Rose Melody Depp, she has been following in her famous father’s footsteps, pursuing a career in the film business. Harley Quinn has already amassed a significant following with over 124,000 followers on Instagram, but, naturally, that kind of popularity is going to attract some negative attention. Kevin Smith recently came to Harley Quinn’s defense against one particularly offensive internet troll, earning Smith the love of the internet community and, undoubtedly, the undying love of his daughter.
Yoga Hosers Director Kevin Smith Attacks Troll Over Attack On Daughter
The online interaction started when Harley Quinn posted a photo of herself on Instagram, something not at all uncommon in this day of selfies and photo sharing social media sites, but, as Movie Pilot remarks, this post drew some unwanted attention from one internet troll. While there may have been others eager to show hate toward Harley Quinn with unwarranted criticism, this particular Instagram user was overly harsh and used explicitly vile language to drive his feelings home.
“You’re ugly as sh–,” the commenter wrote. “And that steaming horse sh– of a movie, Yoga Hosers, should be banned. F— your talentless c–t of a father for trying to compare it with The Matrix. You’re cancer and I sincerely hope you end up like Lindsay Lohan and dead.”
Upon seeing this comment, Kevin Smith naturally felt an overwhelming need to protect his daughter and to also put this kind of hateful rhetoric in its proper perspective, so he publicly responded to him in a post of his own. As is probably the case with most of the people reading that remark, Smith started out by saying the troll’s comment about The Matrix was way out of left field but went on to berate the hater for unloading his own frustrations in life on 17-year-old Harley Quinn. From there, Kevin expressed his thoughts that such hate was only posted about Harley Quinn’s picture because the individual was unhappy with his own life.
“But here’s a nickel’s worth of free advice for folks like this Troll: if you hate me (or my kid) this much, the better use of your time is to make YOUR dreams come true, instead of slamming others for doing the same,” Smith continued. “The best revenge is living insanely well — so if you wanna get back at a 17-year-old girl for the grievous crime of enjoying her life, the best way to do it is to succeed in your OWN existence.”
Harley Quinn Has Some Choice Words Of Her Own
While Kevin Smith was not at all amused by or accepting of the harsh words left on his daughter’s post, Huffington Post reveals that Harley Quinn took a more philosophical approach in a response of her own, addressing all of her followers. Ms. Smith expressed sadness at the fact that internet trolls will attack anyone, famous or not, and adds that it’s important not to take the hateful comments to heart. Harley Quinn was at Disneyland with her family and her boyfriend when she came across the Instagram comment for the first time.
The Yoga Hosers actress says it was an amazing time spent with her loved ones until she checked her Instagram notifications.
“At first I was like alright that hurts, but then I realized who the actual f– cares??? Why should I let this sad a– troll who clearly either has a stick so far up his a– it’s affecting his moral compass or is compensating for an insanely small d— ruin my day?? So I decided to laugh it off because no matter what, there are always going to be people in your life that are either jealous of you, don’t like you or perhaps are just looking to be negative, but you can’t let them get to you because if you let them upset you then they’re winning.”
Harley Quinn went on to talk about the importance of rising above such hateful remarks and choosing to react in a more positive way, sharing her thoughts that words are powerful and can change society. She also says that, while there may be haters flooding the internet with spite and scorn, there are much more supporters, people like her father, Kevin Smith, who will always be in her corner. As it is with her, Harley says, so it is with each of us.
Closing out her lengthy yet worthwhile post, Harley Quinn shares her thought that it’s important to pursue one’s dreams and keep a positive attitude because we might otherwise all become bitter and spiteful trolls.
