Conor McGregor Says Floyd Mayweather Is Gathering His Money, The Notorious Wants $100 Million

Conor McGregor has to fight Nate Diaz next week at UFC 202 and he was asked about future fights. Floyd Mayweather came up and Conor states that the undefeated boxer has to show him the money if he wants a fight.

When asked about a potential bout with Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Conor McGregor replies “of course” and continued.

“Right now I have Floyd running around the Showtime offices gathering my money,” said McGregor during his UFC 202 press day interview. The featherweight champion adds “He’s running around the Showtime offices begging for those executives to come up with $100 million cash to fight me. So as soon as he has my money, we can fight.”

Mayweather has told the media on a number of occasions that Conor McGregor is the only fight he wants. Floyd also told media that he is the a-side and Conor has to fight him under his conditions. In an interview, The Notorious quickly rebuked Floyd and stated that the undefeated boxer needs him due to his lackluster PPV numbers with Andre Berto before his retirement.

During the press day interview, Conor McGregor makes it clear that the money is more important to him than whether they fight under MMA rules or boxing rules. McGregor refers to MMA as a true fight and suggests that Floyd wants the protection of boxing rules to fight him (19.58 in the video below).

“If you want to fight me we can fight,” added McGregor. “If you need a safety net of rules, we can do that as long as you have my money. I don’t need no rules to protect me. That’s my thoughts on all that.”

When asked if he thinks Floyd Mayweather is avoiding a real fight, McGregor is reluctant to agree, stating that Floyd is a beginner in MMA and refers to him as a phenomenal boxer, athlete and intelligent businessman.

Despite Floyd Mayweather largely being considered the greatest defensive boxer of all time, McGregor said that he will enter the contest with confidence and he will be fighting to win. He also entertains the idea of conquering two worlds, which may indicate that Conor McGregor will have more crossover boxing fights, if the Mayweather bout happens.

UFC president Dana White has made it clear that Conor McGregor fighting Mayweather cannot happen without his permission and that Floyd has not called him to negotiate the fight.

Mr. White has also stated that he wants Conor to return to the featherweight division regardless of the result of his Nate Diaz rematch at UFC 202.

Jose Also is the interim champion after defeating Frankie Edgar at UFC 200. McGregor won the first fight by knockout in just 13 seconds. Many MMA fans would like to see how the bout would have turned out if the fighters had more exchanges, and the rematch is expected to be another PPV hit for the Irish fighter.

His rematch with Aldo may also take place later this year since McGregor likes to stay active. It is also possible that he fights Floyd Mayweather after defending his featherweight belt.

Conor McGregor is not focused on his rematch with Nate Diaz. He revealed during the presser that he spent a lot of money preparing for this fight by flying over his entire team to Las Vegas. He is also housing sparring partners that emulate Diaz’s style and body type.

Conor is the slight favorite going into the rematch. McGregor claims to have dominated the fight before fatigue set in. However, fight metrics of the UFC 196 have the two fighters throwing a similar number of significant strikes in the first round.

Nate Diaz will also have a full camp in this bout, and McGregor will be training for 170 pounds rather than 155.

Who do you think will win the rematch?
