‘Zoo’ Renewed For Another Season [Spoilers]

With impressive ratings, Zoo remains the strongest scripted CBS series and will be returning in the summer of 2017. Deadline Hollywood shared that Zoo is the second CBS summer series that was renewed, joining the network’s hit reality program Big Brother, which was renewed for two more seasons.

For those unfamiliar with this popular drama series, Zoo is based on the 2012 novel by James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge, and the story takes place in a world where something is seriously wrong with the animal kingdom. On Zoo, humans are under attack, and it is up to a special team to stop them before the military steps in. On this season of Zoo, the military is under the command of General Davies (Peter Outerbridge), and his plan is to wipe out every animal on the planet. What he failed to reveal is that in the process, what he proposes to do will also kill approximately two million people as well.

Zoo follows a small team of men and women who are determined to find a cure and to stop the military from unleashing their nefarious plans. The Zoo team is made up of Jackson Oz (James Wolk), who is an American zoologist. Along with his Kenyan friend and safari guide, Abraham Kenyatta (Nonso Anozie), they find themselves recruited by a French intelligence agent, Chloe Tousignant (Nora Arnezeder). The Zoo group is complete when journalist Jamie Campbell (Kristen Connolly) and veterinary pathologist Dr. Mitch Morgan (Billy Burke) are added to help investigate the mysterious pandemic.

As attacks become more coordinated and deadly on Zoo, the team is in a race against time as they begin to uncover who and what is really behind the infection. Fans of Zoo have learned over the last two seasons that Jackson’s father, Professor Robert Oz (Ken Olin), seems to be the main culprit responsible for the resurgence of the mutated gene that is causing the erratic and dangerous behavior in animals, and Abraham and Jamie discover that he is still alive. Recently, it was revealed on Zoo that with Mitch’s help, Jackson remembered that his father may have injected him with what they believed caused the current pandemic on Zoo when he was a boy.

On this season of Zoo, Jackson is showing signs of infection, and Chloe was killed. On the latest episode of Zoo, when Jackson discovers that his mother, Dr. Elizabeth Oz (Bess Armstrong), and the people she is traveling with are missing in Mozambique, he insists that a team is sent to find her.

Once his mother’s camp is found and Jackson and the rest of the Zoo team finally get to the scene, there is only one survivor. To their shock and surprise, she tells them that it was Jackson’s mother who killed everyone. A preview for next week’s episode of Zoo shows that apparently she was exposed to the gene as well and has mutated into some sort of creature, which is the same fate that awaits Jackson.

Meanwhile, as Mitch continues to try to decipher the triple helix that seems to be responsible for the pandemic, the Zoo team continues to jet around the world looking for more answers, and they will be faced with many difficult choices. Since Zoo team members Abraham and Jamie kept the fact that Jackson’s father is alive to themselves, how Jackson will react when he finds out is anyone’s guess. Any reunion between father and son on Zoo will not go well, especially after what happened to Jackson’s mother and himself. Mitch needs to find a cure or at least a way to halt the progression of the disease before Jackson succumbs to the mutation, and becomes a danger the Zoo team cannot ignore.
