‘Teen Mom OG’ Star Maci Bookout Defends Herself And Her Co-Stars On Twitter

Teen Mom OG star Maci Bookout is fighting back against her critics. After being caught up in an Instagram controversy after allegedly putting her baby into a sling before he was the appropriate size, Bookout shared a telling message with her fans and followers.

On August 10, Maci Bookout took to Twitter, where she shared a retweet of a post made by the executive producer of Teen Mom OG, Morgan J. Freeman.

“So you think everyone should just naturally be perfect mothers with no struggles? And that being on TV should have no effect on their lives?” the message read.

Freeman also tweeted, “Others’ stories & decisions when shared are touchstones for growth, understanding & awakening – or judgement & criticism… you choose.”

In recent years, Maci Bookout and her co-stars have been consistently criticized for their behavior, which has been quite questionable at times. Although Bookout has been known as one of the more stable mothers, other Teen Mom stars, including Farrah Abraham and Jenelle Evans, have been tied to controversy since the Teen Mom franchise began several years ago. In fact, Maci Bookout nearly left the series due to Abraham’s sex tape scandal in 2013.

During filming on Teen Mom OG Season 5, Maci Bookout told producers she was done with the show when she heard that Abraham would be back after being told she would not. According to Bookout, she didn’t want her family tied to a series that followed someone who had been involved in a pornographic film.

“I’m not doing this anymore. I’m not going to have my six-year-old son on a show with someone who did porn on TV,” Maci Bookout told Freeman during filming, according to a report by Reality Tea.

“If you guys were living together or best friends or working together, I’d understand, but because the show shows four completely different experiences, you’re able to see how decisions manifest in different ways,” he explained.

“You’re not going to talk me into it,” she insisted. “There is no discussion. We don’t need a second to talk, we’re on the same page. This is it. I’m pissed off! I’m really really mad. As far as I am concerned, you guys can leave now. This is over. I mean, I’m done.”

Ultimately, Maci Bookout chose to return to the show, but she made it clear that she had reservations when it came to her kids.

Since the season ended months ago, Maci Bookout and her co-stars have been filming Season 6, and when the show returns, Bookout will share tons of exciting moments with fans, including her engagement to fiance Taylor McKinney and news of her third pregnancy, which resulted in the birth of her son Maverick Reed in May.

During Teen Mom OG Season 5, Maci Bookout made it clear to McKinney that she wanted to make their relationship official and get married. However, despite ring shopping during the show, no proposal happened. Instead, McKinney waited to pop the question until he and Bookout were filming Season 6 this past January in Venice Beach, California.

In addition to her son Maverick Reed, 2 months, Maci Bookout is a mom to 1-year-old daughter Jayde Carter McKinney and 7-year-old son Bentley Edwards, whose father is ex-boyfriend Ryan Edwards.

For more of Maci Bookout and her co-stars, including Catelynn Lowell, Amber Portwood, and Farrah Abraham, be sure to tune into the Season 6 premiere of Teen Mom OG on Monday, August 22 at 10 p.m. on MTV.
