The Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers, two teams battling to remain in playoff position, face off Sunday in the deciding game of a three-game inter-league Major League Baseball series, a matchup that will stream live from Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California, as the Red Sox attempt to seal a winning record on their arduous, 11-game West Coast road trip.
Boston stands at 5-5 on the draining western swing, which saw them split four-game sets in Anaheim and Seattle before winning one and losing one against the National League West second-place Dodgers.
Boston sits at third position in the American League East with 60 wins against 49 defeats, but only two games behind the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays, who are tied for first.
The Red Sox are also battling the Detroit Tigers for the second Wild Card slot in the American League, where Boston holds a slim, half-game edge going into Sunday’s Major League Baseball action.
Over in the National League West, Los Angeles at 61-49 trails the San Francisco Giants by two games, but the Dodgers also hold a three-game lead in the NL Wild Card race.

The Red Sox will send their high-priced free agent hurler, 30-year-old David Price, to the mound, for his 24th start of what overall has been a disappointing season for the southpaw after he signed a seven-year, $217 million contract with Boston in the offseason.
But despite a 4.30 ERA, his highest since his first full Major League season in 2009, and allowing a league-high 157 hits in 150 and two-thirds innings — including 17 home runs, an average of one dinger every nine innings pitched — Price has appeared sharper in two starts on the Red Sox western trip, lasting eight innings against the Angels on July 28 — though Boston lost that one in a 2-1 heartbreaker — and throwing seven shutout innings against Seattle five days later.
Unfortunately, in the eighth inning of the Seattle game, Price imploded in the eighth inning, surrendering four quick runs as the Red Sox lost that one 5-4.
For the Dodgers, newly acquired lefty Rich Hill had been scheduled to pitch, but a recurring blister caused Los Angeles Manager Dave Roberts to scratch the often-injured 36-year-old.
In Hill’s place, the Dodgers will counter Price with veteran righty Brandon McCarthy, who came back from Tommy John elbow surgery earlier this season. Since his return, the 33-year-old veteran has put together a 2-2 record with an impressive 2.76 ERA for Los Angeles.
But in his last two outings, McCarthy has failed to make it past the fourth and third innings respectively, getting knocked around by the Tampa Bay Rays — despite striking out seven Rays batters in his four innings of work — and Colorado Rockies.
