Superman To Clash With Supergirl In ‘Supergirl’

Superman, the iconic character from DC Comics, will be featuring in at least two episodes of Supergirl, the American drama series that features on the CW Network. According to Design & Trend, Tyler Hoechlin will play the role of Clark Kent and his alter-ego Superman in the first two episodes of the upcoming Supergirl series, that will also feature Melissa Benoist in the lead role.

By all account, Tyler Hoechlin will be the perfect choice for the role, as the actor can fully project the charisma, strength, and kindness of the superhero. Design & Trend reports that Tyler was spotted filming for the two episodes along with his co-star Mehcad Brooks in West Georgia Street in Vancouver.

The actor was also spotted in his iconic Superman costume while filming another scene at Vancouver’s former Post Office building. The hilarious scene that was being shot depicted a purse snatcher getting knocked out by Clark Kent’s steel-like hand. According to TMZ, Tyler Hoechlin looked amazing in his Superman getup, as he has his hair curled like the original comic superhero that so many people are familiar with.

Tyler certainly looked happy donning the Superman costume, even taking the opportunity to take selfies with other people. Earlier, the creators of the show were facing the challenge of finding the perfect actor who could portray Superman flawlessly, as Tyler certainly didn’t resemble the superhero while dressed in his normal, day-to-day clothes. However, the reaction of everybody on the set was apparently something to behold when Tyler first appeared in his full Superman costume, because by all accounts he resembled Superman in every respect.

It was revealed during the recent San Diego Comic-Con that Superman will be portrayed only as a supporting character in the series, while the primary focus will continue to be on Kara Zor-El, or Supergirl. Unlike the dynamic Superman from Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, who delivered an action-packed thriller, Tyler Hoechlin’s character is more traditional and positive in his outlook. However, in an interesting twist, the initial two episodes will reportedly show a battle of wills between the two superheroes, as the two have been shown to have different philosophical approaches.

Sarah Schechter, the executive producer of the series, feels that the upcoming series focuses more on the interactions that Kara Zor-El has with her adoptive family. Later, the series will focus on how Kara reconnects with Clark Kent, her original family member. Previously, Superman had appeared in the opening credits in Season 1 and he was shown to have maintained an online correspondence with Kara.

Additionally, a younger version of Superman appeared when Kara was infected by the Black Mercy telepathic plant. The producers have made every attempt to delve deeper into Kara’s Kryptonian family, which includes Clark. According to Empire Online, Melissa Benoist always wanted the two superheroes to meet each other as they complemented each other perfectly.

“I always wanted them to interact, because it’s such an important relationship, and they have learned so much from each other.”

Even though Superman does not overshadow Supergirl in any way in this particular iteration of the classic superhero story, the dynamics between the two should prove to be both fun and entertaining for viewers. Kara is shown to fight bravely, even in the grimmest situation, and ultimately the creators want to depict the idea that hope is the key ingredient of the series, and that the ability to fight the odds with a positive outlook runs in Kara’s Kryptonian family. According to Empire Online, Tyler spoke about Superman being the symbol of truth, justice, and selflessness.

“He chooses not to use his powers selfishly. Instead, he helps other people. That is such a symbol and statement of who he truly is. That’s something I would really want to focus on; to make it a top priority of who he is.”
