Katheryn Winnick Wants Your Help To Support Women In Film, Fans Can Help By Picking Up A Lagertha-Inspired T-Shirt

Katheryn Winnick currently plays the shield maiden Lagertha in History’s Vikings. Lagertha is a powerful woman in the viking world, having not only been married to a king, but fighting in battles alongside the men and becoming an Earl in her own right. She is now appealing to other powerful female fans out there to help her support a campaign dear to her heart.

Before Katheryn Winnick was Lagertha, she was a strong woman in her own right, having trained in martial arts from a very young age. Not only did she compete and gain a black belt status in her field, she helped to establish several martial arts studios. On the set of Vikings, while many of the men have their own stunt doubles, Winnick proudly during the recent San Diego Comic-Con event that she doesn’t have a stunt double.

“I refuse to have a stunt double,” she proclaimed during an interview with IMDb at Comic-Con. This is one of the reasons Vikings fans identify so strongly not only with Lagertha, but the actress who plays her. For many, the lines between Lagertha and Katheryn Winnick have become blurred.

So, for Katheryn, being a powerful female role model is nothing new. But her latest endeavor for female empowerment involves T-shirts. That’s right, Winnick is aiming to raise funds for Women in Film via a T-shirt campaign.

The Women in Film website states it is a “non-profit organization dedicated to promoting equal opportunities for women, encouraging creative projects by women, and expanding and enhancing portrayals of women in all forms of global media.”

“Founded in 1973, Women in Film focuses on advocacy and education— provides scholarships, grants, and film finishing funds—and works to preserve the legacies of all women working in the entertainment community.”

While roughly 50 percent of the population is female, Women in Film points out that a very small percentage of females are represented across the board in the film industry.

Katheryn Winnick is aiming to raise funds for this non-profit organization via the sale of T-shirts she helped design. The black T-shirt displays an image of Katheryn as Lagertha with the phrase “Wake Up, Kick A**, Repeat.” During Comic-Con, Winnick proudly wore her own T-shirt and plugged the charity when asked about her attire. In her interview with IMDb, she thought the slogan was a great mantra for women who felt they were struggling in a male dominated world.

Currently, the T-shirts are on sale via this website. The T-shirts retail for $25, and all proceeds from sales will assist with Women in Film‘s current endeavors. However, if you want one of Katheryn Winnick’s T-shirts, you will have to hurry. The site that sells them, Omaze, is set up like a Kickstarter program, so the T-shirts are not printed until the required quota for sales is met. While Katheryn Winnick’s Women in Film campaign has exceeded expectations, as far as sales goes, there is still a deadline to be met. That deadline is in two days time on August 6. So, if you are thinking about supporting Women in Film, want to show your support for women in a male dominated universe, or are simply a mad Lagertha fan, you will have to hurry to make your purchase. According to Omaze, items will be shipped approximately 10-14 days after the campaign closes. Please be aware, for international orders, a delay of up to eight weeks for delivery is normal considering international shipping times.
