Lady Gaga To Make A Second Album With Tony Bennett? Jazz Singer Hints At New Collaboration

When Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett first announced their music collaboration, some people scratched their heads. However, as we found out, it was a match made in music heaven. Their first jazz album Cheek to Cheek was released in 2014 and became a massive commercial and critical success. At the end of its run, the record won a grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.

Considering the success of their first outing, and their tour to promote said album, it isn’t a huge shock to find out that there are tentative plans for Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett to return to the studio for a second jazz album. During an interview with Billboard Magazine, Tony Bennett teased that we might be getting another album for the two, noting the success of the first album.

“She and I are talking about doing a second album. There’ll be just wonderful songs that she and I both like.”

So what’s the hold-up? Well, it appears as though Gaga is very busy right now working on a myriad of projects.

Of the delay, Bennett said, “She’s busy right now, but at the beginning of next year we’ll start doing an album. The first one went way over a million, and it’s still selling.”

As the Inquisitr reported, there’s been hints that Lady Gaga is following up with an album of her own. Her last album, Artpop, failed to capture critics’ attention like her previous albums The Fame Monster and Born This Way. It was eventually assumed that Artpop was rushed.

In an interview with Rolling Stone the singer explained the massive failure as a depressing time.

“I was exhausted fighting people off. I couldn’t even feel my own heartbeat. I was angry, cynical and had this deep sadness like an anchor dragging everywhere I go. I just didn’t feel like fighting anymore. I didn’t feel like standing up for myself one more time—to one more person who lied to me.”

She seemed to have found solace in working with Tony Bennett who she credits with saving her life. Now that her career is on an upswing, with a Golden Globe on her shelf for her acting turn in American Horror Story and critical praise in her corner, it’s back to a new album.

The last we heard about the possibility of Gaga’s solo album was early in July. RedOne who is an expected producer on the new album said that Gaga’s album is in progress. While he didn’t say anything about a possible release date, he did say, “All I know is that we did eight great songs so far, and I think we have incredible songs.”

Many suspect that Gaga’s sound will be a drastic departure from her previous albums, especially because of her work with Tony Bennett. That said, RedOne said that he didn’t stray too far, so fans might be surprised that it’s the same old Gaga.

“I didn’t want to go too far from what she is. We kept it [similar to] what Gaga is, what she’s done all these years,” he explained.

He went on to call the genre as “a mixture of classic music and futuristic.”

RedOne isn’t alone in spilling the beans that a new Lady Gaga album is in the works. Gaga’s friend Elton John said that her next album won’t be out until next year, which is in line with the timeline that we’re given. That said, John did call it “brilliant.”

“I’ve heard two or three songs from her new record, which she’s making with Mark Ronson, and it’s absolutely brilliant. So you’re gonna be really happy when you hear that later in the year or early next year.”

Hopefully, Gaga will eventually find time to complete a second jazz album with Tony Bennett.
