Hakeem Nicks Out For New York Giants

Hakeem Nicks won’t be suiting up for the New York Giants tonight when the team takes on the Carolina Panthers.

Nicks didn’t practice with the team this week but said that he was hopeful about his chances on Thursday night.

Nicks said:

“I just have to keep taking it day by day and [Wednesday] should feel a little bit better and then Thursday will be game time.”

Unfortunately, Thursday came a little too soon. The star wide-receiver was downgraded last night and did not travel with the team for their game against the Panthers.

Nicks, who had foot surgery during the off-season, helped the Giants during their first two games of the season. The wide receiver re-injured his foot last Sunday and was unable to participate in practices this week. The Giants announced today on Twitter that he would not be traveling to tonight’s game.

The Giants wrote on Twitter:

“WR Hakeem Nicks has been downgraded to out and will not play vs. the Panthers. Nicks did not make the trip.”

The Washington Post reports that Nicks posted a career high last Sunday by catching 10 passes for 199 yards and a touchdown. Nicks spectacular game was overshadowed, however, when he re-injured his foot.

ESPN reports that the Giants will also be playing tonight without running back Ahmad Bradshaw, offensive tackle David Diehl, or wide receiver Domenik Hixon. On the bright side, the Giants will still have Victor Cruz who has caught 17 passes so far this season for 237 yards and a touchdown.
