Bella Hadid Discusses Her Romance With The Weeknd, Says She ‘Really Loves’ Him

Bella Hadid and The Weeknd have been dating for over a year, and in a new interview, the 19-year-old model opened up about their relationship.

Although Bella Hadid hasn’t said much about her love for The Weeknd, aka Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, in the past several months since their relationship began, she made it clear that he had her heart while speaking to Glamour this week.

“I’m dating Abel,” Bella Hadid revealed during her interview with Glamour magazine, according to a report by Hollywood Life on August 2. “I don’t see him as The Weeknd. I’m proud of The Weeknd and the music he makes, but I really love Abel.”

Bella Hadid and The Weeknd, 26, have been linked to one another since last May, when the model and younger sister of Gigi Hadid, appeared in his music video for “At Night.”

Earlier this year, after months of dating, Bella Hadid and The Weeknd made their red carpet debut at the 2016 Grammys, where he took home the awards for Best R&B Performance and Best Urban Contemporary Album.

“It was a big night for him. He has worked so hard, and he did so well that night,” Bella Hadid gushed. “As a girlfriend I wanted to be there to support him. Seeing him so happy when he won a Grammy made me so happy.”

In recent months, Bella Hadid has made it quite clear that she is nothing short of impressed with her boyfriend’s talent and loves to see him happy with his successful career in the music industry.

“I love seeing him happy and passionate about his art,” Bella Hadid explained to Elle magazine earlier this year, via the New York Daily News. “Being able to see how he works, and put both of our workplaces together, turned out to be really beautiful.”

Months ago, during an interview with Rolling Stone, The Weeknd revealed that he had met Bella Hadid after requesting she be featured on the artwork for his chart-topping album Beauty Behind the Madness.

While Bella Hadid turned him down at first, he later contacted her in hopes of a face-to-face meeting and the rest is history.

“It just kind of fell into my lap. If this had happened two years ago — well… she couldn’t,” he explained, referring to the fact that Bella Hadid was just 16 at the time.

In addition to Bella Hadid’s age being a problem for the singer years ago, he admitted that he wasn’t in the best place mentally and even spoke of his addiction struggles, which luckily subsided prior to the start of their relationship.

“If I’d met someone two years ago, I probably would’ve f***ed it up. But I’m more – how do I say it? – clear-thinking now,” he told Rolling Stone magazine, according to E! News.

While being in a high-profile relationship can be difficult for some, Bella Hadid has her sister, Gigi, to look up to for advice. In recent years, Gigi Hadid has dated a number of famous men, including Cody Simpson, Joe Jonas, and, most recently, Zayn Malik, so it’s fairly safe to say she knows the ropes when it comes to being in a celebrity relationship.

In addition to their appearance at the Grammy Awards in February, Bella Hadid and The Weeknd have walked the red carpet together at the Daily Front Row Fashion Los Angeles Awards and at the Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology Costume Institute Gala earlier this year.
