‘The Walking Dead’: Several More Groups To Be Introduced In Season 7? [Spoilers]

Warning: The Walking Dead Season 7 spoilers are ahead.

Fans cannot wait until Season 7 of The Walking Dead premieres on AMC. There is only a few more months to wait and last weekend, the official trailer was finally released. Although who Negan killed is the biggest question, there are other TWD spoilers that have been revealed.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Ezekiel and Shiva will appear in Season 7. This was rumored for months, but it was finally confirmed when The Kingdom’s leader and his pet tiger were introduced in the official trailer. Will there be other groups and communities that viewers will encounter when The Walking Dead returns to AMC?

According to ComicBook.com, showrunner Scott Gimple spoke about different groups and communities while at Comic-Con 2016.

“We have these groups coming into the mix,” Scott Gimple said at the San Diego comic book convention. “Some of these groups, we’ve only seen hints of, like the Saviors. They exist in their own society. We see that. We talked about the Kingdom. That’s their own place. We saw Tara and Heath in a weird place. There’s Alexandria. With these places, you have different characters and ways of life. We’re expanding literally to these types of locations but also with these characters and the types of lives that they lead.”

In previous seasons of TWD, there was generally just one major villain and then the rest of the focus was on Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his group. The Governor and Woodbury, Gareth and Terminus, and The Wolves are a few examples. On the Season 6 finale, fans were finally introduced to Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), who was not happy that Rick’s group killed several of the Saviors.

Of course, not all survivors that Rick’s group encounters are bad. The Hilltop Colony is a peaceful community who fell under Negan’s control. When Jesus (Tom Payne) entered the picture, the whole situation with Negan and the Saviors began. However, fans shouldn’t forget that it was mentioned that a few of the Saviors had been watching Alexandria for a while. It was not specified for how long, but Negan and the Saviors are aware of who and what is around them. It was probably only a matter of time before Alexandria was targeted.

Besides the Hilltop Colony, the Saviors, and Ezekiel’s community, The Kingdom, what other groups may appear in Season 7? In the comic books, there is a group called the Whisperers. They are introduced in Issue 130. For reference, Negan’s introduction came in Issue 100. However, that doesn’t mean that fans won’t see the Whisperers sooner rather than later. Just who are they? The group disguises themselves with walker skin. Like Michonne’s idea to use chained walkers without jaws to disguise her “living flesh” scent, the Whisperers wear walker masks for the same reason.

“So the Whisperers… clean the skin of the dead, zombie or otherwise. It’s essentially human leather at that point,” Robert Kirkman explained in Issue 146. “They were seen stretching it out and drying it in recent issues. The skin is processed. It masks their smell, and makes them smell a little dead, which allows them to move among the dead, but the inside of it… very clean and safe. I hope that clears things up.”

Some fans recall when Rick found Morgan (Lennie James) after his son died. Morgan was rambling incoherently, but some of his words made sense to comic book readers. At one point, he was talking about “people who wore dead people’s faces,” according to Imgur. This is exactly what the Whisperers do.

Fans should also keep in mind that although several of the Wolves were dealt with last season, there are more out there. It is reasonable to assume that the group could appear again in the future.

In Season 7, expect to meet a lot of different types of survivors, both good and bad. According to TVLine, executive producer Gale Anne Hurd revealed that Rick’s group will meet more survivors. She teased that they will be both “friend and foe.” Also, expect different types of leadership, which suggests that there are several more communities and groups that fans have not seen yet.
