Taylor Swift Can’t Win: Snubbed By The 2016 MTV VMAs And Comic-Con

It hasn’t been a good month for Taylor Swift. After the singer has been ostracized for moving on quickly with actor Tom Hiddleston, she has since found herself in a feud with ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris.

Then, Kim Kardashian exposed the singer-songwriter on Snapchat by releasing footage of her conversation with Kanye West about his controversial track “Famous.” Since then, some of Swift’s fans have turned their backs on their idol and sent her a series of snake emojis on her Instagram account, which may have been since handled by her team.

Lately, it seems like Taylor Swift can’t escape the backlash. According to a British tabloid, Tom Hiddleston was allegedly asked to go solo during his trip to San Diego for Comic-Con this past weekend. As you know, both Swift and Hiddleston arrived to Los Angeles arm-in-arm from their trip to Australia last week. Fans speculated that Swift would be by Hiddleston’s side at the comic book convention, but insiders told The Sun that they wanted to avoid a “Hiddleswift circus” at the event.

Although the pop star made an appearance, the focus was still on their whirlwind romance. When Hiddleston was asked if his new relationship has affected his career, he claimed that their courtship has been nothing but “authentic.”

“I don’t know, it comes down to being authentic. Everything you do you have to make sure you truly believe in it and as long as you know that, it doesn’t matter what anyone else says about it. The nature of being a public figure is that everyone will have an opinion about anything you do, and as long as you know why you’ve done something and you’ve committed to it with authenticity then you’re OK.”

Now, it looks like Swift has also been snubbed by the 2016 MTV VMAs. More bad news has been revealed today on Tuesday, July 26. According to a report via Us Weekly, the network has announced the nominees for the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards, and Swift’s name was not on the list.

Instead, the full list of nominees revealed via Facebook Live on Tuesday afternoon showed Beyoncé and Adele having the most nominations. Beyoncé received 11 nominations for her Lemonade visual album, while Adele received a modest eight nominations for her hit songs “Hello” and “Send My Love (To Your New Lover).”

Swift was snubbed, shocking fans across the country. This is another hit to the 26-year-old’s career in recent weeks. Last year, Swift swept the awards ceremony with 10 nominations for her hit song and music video “Bad Blood” and her successful album 1989. The reason why Swift isn’t a nominee this year is because she already swept the show last year and her album was released back in 2014. But she has been releasing new music from her chart-topping album since then.

She has since released new music videos for her songs “Wildest Dreams,” “Out of the Woods,” and “New Romantics.” However, “Wildest Dreams” was debuted during the 2015 MTV VMAs. Meanwhile, “Out of the Woods” premiered on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest in December 2015, but was snubbed as well.

Both of the cinematic music videos made headlines, but for different reasons. Some argued that “Wildest Dreams” promoted white colonization, while some of Swift’s fans were underwhelmed by “Out of the Woods,” a song that was written about her relationship with Harry Styles.

Ironically, Kanye West’s “Famous,” which includes that infamous line about Swift, was nominated for Video of the Year and Best Male Video. And Calvin Harris’ hit single “This Is What You Came For,” which he admitted that Swift wrote, was nominated for Video Of The Year and Best Male Video as well, according to the Mirror.
