‘Outlander’ Season 3 Spoilers: What’s Next For Claire & Jamie?

Outlander Season 3 is all fans of the show are talking about this week after Saturday’s amazing Season 2 finale. In the episode, titled “Dragonfly In Amber,” viewers were transported back to Claire’s time, and 20 years from when she returned home to her first husband Frank.

In Claire’s reality, Frank is now dead and she and daughter Brianna have returned to Scotland for the funeral of Reverend Wakefield. While they’re in Scotland, Claire’s memories of Jamie and her time spent in the past creep in as Brianna finally finds out about her mother’s crazy time traveling journey, and that her real father is Jamie Fraser.

Outlander fans were left with the realization that Claire had lived her life and raised her daughter the best way she knew how, but now that Frank is dead and she’s found out that Jamie really didn’t die during the Battle of Culloden, she can return to him if she goes through the stones again. Season 3 will likely pick up with that sentiment, as Claire will want to immediately go back through the stones and see if she can find the love of her life yet again.

Vanity Fair reports that Outlander Season 3 will be much different than the first two seasons. The season will follow author Diana Gabaldon’s Voyager novel.

Claire is now in her 40s and has been apart from Jamie for 20 years. In the novel, she returns to Jamie’s time in the 18th century to find out that her lost love has changed quite a bit in the time that she’s been gone. Claire and Jamie will have to get to know each other all over again, and it may get a little awkward. If the season follows the book closely, things will get more than tense when Claire finds out that Jamie has married Leary, the woman who nearly sent Claire to her death by deeming her a witch.

Meanwhile, Outlander viewers will see Claire and Jamie continue to have great adventures together. The couple will set sail yet again, and this time they’ll be headed to a more tropical location. It seems that fans will be getting some interesting scenes with the characters aboard ships.

Besides the age and time difference, another big change that Outlander fans can expect in Season 3 is a big character shake up. Many familiar faces will be gone from the story, and two main characters will say their goodbyes.

The notorious Black Jack Randall will be gone as he’ll likely meet his death early on in Season 3. Fans may see Captain Randall in flashbacks, but his story with Jamie is now over. Meanwhile, Black Jack’s doppelgänger, Frank Randall, will also be departing throughout the course of the season.

As viewers found out in the Season 2 finale, Frank is dead in Claire’s current world. However, he’ll likely be seen throughout Season 3 in flashbacks of what Claire’s life has been like over the past 20 years. In the Outlander book series, Frank’s attitude changes quite a bit as he cheats on Claire, and even threatens to take Brianna from her. It’s unclear whether or not Frank’s character will take this dark turn on the TV series, but fans can expect to see Frank and Claire’s marriage struggles in flashbacks throughout Season 3, as well as Frank’s death.

“There’s so much great, creative, dramatic moments that happen with Jamie and his time post-Culloden… Then there’s Claire and Frank and Brianna, and the pain and the emotional journey [Claire] goes on having Frank raise a child that’s not his own. We’re so excited about it,” executive producer Maril Davis revealed.

As for when Outlander Season 3 may return to Starz, it looks like fans can probably expect to see Claire and Jamie on their screens again sometime in the spring of 2017.
