‘Adr1ft’ PS4 Release Date Set For July 15, Xbox One Version Arriving In September?

ADR1FT PS4 release date is finally locked in for next week. On their official website, Three One Zero revealed that the PlayStation 4 version of the game is launching on Friday, July 15, in the U.S. and Europe via PSN digital-only. The “immersive First Person Experience (FPX)” game comes with a $19.99 price tag.

Adam Orth, the creator of ADR1FT, shared on his post that it has been their dream since the beginning to release the game on PS4 and having to finally attain it “feels incredible.” He also posted a tweet regarding the game’s PlayStation release.

PlayStation Lifestyle reported that gamers won’t need a PlayStation VR to play ADR1FT. As a response to a Twitter question, Orth said that it is a “Regular, non-VR controller-based PS4 game.”

Meanwhile, the Xbox One version’s release is expected later this year. No official announcement has been made yet regarding the release schedule for the game’s Microsoft console version, but if the listing on the Xbox Store is to be considered, ADR1FT will most likely arrive on September 16, as reported by Engadget.

Essentially a non-violent and narrative-driven game published by 505 Games, ADR1FT focuses on “exploration, environment, narrative and light game mechanics,” according to Three One Zero. The PS4 game will involve action, objectives, puzzles and simulation.

Explaining what the story is about, the game developer, on its official website, further shared the following.

“ADR1FT is the story of Commander Alex Oshima who wakes up floating amongst the debris of the destroyed Northstar IV space station with no memory of who she is, no memory of the catastrophic event that took the lives of her crew and a badly damaged EVA suit slowly leaking oxygen.”

Taking the role of Oshima, the lone survivor of the tragic event, the goals of the players are simple – “to stay alive and get home safely.” To do this, gamers need to look for oxygen resources, explore what’s left of the space station in zero gravity, and repair the damaged EVA suit. Furthermore, Oshima needs to successfully reactivate the “station’s 4 core system mainframes in order to be able to operate and launch the station’s EEV escape craft,” Three One Zero explained.

Three One Zero’s FAQ page for the PS4 title also revealed that ADR1FT resembles titles like Campo Santo’s Firewatch, story-based game Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture developed by The Chinese Room and SCE Santa Monica Studio as well as the critically acclaimed and award-winning experiment first-person title Dear Esther. Comparing it to films, the experience, theme, and tone of the game is close to movies like Moon and 2001: A Space Odyssey.

ADR1FT had its Steam and Oculus Rift release on March 28. And as an answer to fans’ request to make it compatible with other head mounted displays, the game was released for HTC Vive in May.

Here’s a snippet from an ADR1FT review posted by IGN.

“Adr1ft is a beautiful recreation of floating through the terrifying and lonely vacuum of space in a bulky, near-future spacesuit. This journey through a thoroughly destroyed space station has some moments of serenity and beauty, especially when looking down on the Earth below. But it struggles to build a game around its simulation, and soon becomes as directionless as its name suggests.”

Moreover, a review posted on Steam by user neodos noted ADR1FT’s “great graphics and nice audio.” According to the review, it is “stunning for the first 30 minutes, but it falls short, the game is horribly boring and has unimaginative and repetitive ‘gameplay.'”

Meanwhile, MetaCritic gave ADR1FT’s PC version a 64/100 MetaScore and a User Score of 5.1. Digital Chumps’s review for the game featured on the Metacritic website noted that in VR, the game is “a compelling and amazing experience.”
