Prepare Your Childhood: A ‘He-Man’ And ‘ThunderCats’ Crossover Is Coming From DC Comics And Mattel

Some may think that the Sword of Omens is the most powerful weapon in the entire universe. There are others who believe The Power Sword’s sheer magic and power cannot be beaten. Well, combining the two of them together to fight on the same side seems like an unbeatable pairing, but some bad guys are certainly going to try. DC Comics and Mattel are teaming up for a mega-crossover that will have He-Man and the ThunderCats partnering up.

As reported by Comic Book Resources, DC Comics is bringing the comic book crossover event into reality this fall and it will be epic.

The series is set to launch this October and it is going to be the first time that the very popular ’80s toy and cartoon franchises have met. It’s going to be a limited series of just six issues with Mattel head writer and Masters of the Universe lead creative Rob David and supervising producer Lloyd Goldfine scripting the whole thing.

Freddie E. Williams II has recently finished working on the crossover between Batman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, so he will be free to provide the art.

“For everyone out there who took different action figures and teamed them up to take on the world, this one’s for you,” David said in a statement.

“Writing this crossover event is the thrill of a lifetime, and Rob and I can’t wait to get started…You don’t wait 30 years and not go big!” Goldfine added.

For those wondering, the plot of the He-Man and ThunderCats crossover will have Mumm-Ra searching through different realms and across multiple dimensions for a powerful weapon. He wants a weapon that is powerful enough to defeat Lion-O’s Sword of Omens which leads him to Eternia and He-Man’s Power Sword.

After this, the two dimensions and universes merge together as villains side with villains to defeat the heroes siding with the heroes. Williams isn’t just doing this for the fans as his inner child is thrilled with the opportunities before him.

“The Power of Grayskull and the Great Eye of Thundera have aligned to make me the luckiest guy on all the earths! He-Man and ThunderCats were my life when I was in grade school—family and friends knew I loved both cartoons so much. I used to pause episodes and draw from them, since they were so awesome. The He-Man/ThunderCats crossover is the fulfillment of a lifelong goal and my fanboy dream come true! I’m having a blast!”

Right now, it’s not entirely known who will appear in the series from both He-Man and ThunderCats, but the first concept art is giving some ideas. It’s not the easiest thing to see, but on the hero side, it looks like:

• He-Man
• Lion-O
• Teela
• Cheetara
• The Sorceress
• Panthro
• Man-At-Arms
• Tygra

On the villain side, there appears to be:

• Evil Lynn
• Monkian
• Triclops
• Slithe
• Trap Jaw
• Vultureman
• Jackalman

Noticeably absent from the villains side of things in this first image are Skeletor and Mumm-Ra.

All of the fun will begin with the first issue being released on October 5 and then being published monthly through all six parts.

One has to wonder how Skeletor and Mumm-ra are going to coexist on the same side, but destroying Lion-O, He-Man, the Masters, and the ThunderCats could bring enough evil drive to have them work together. This mega-crossover between He-Man and the ThunderCats is something that will have new fans of DC Comics and Mattel along with old fans begging for more. If done right, this could be an ’80s explosion of awesomeness.
