Photo Of Pennsylvania Father Sleeping Under Son’s Hospital Crib Goes Viral

Andre Palmer had just finished working an overnight shift, but the Pennsylvania father headed to his son’s hospital room and curled up to sleep on the floor under his crib. According to Amy Palmer, their 20-month-old son AJ was hospitalized after suffering “an asthma attack I just couldn’t break.”

Amy couldn’t resist posting an image of her husband Andre sleeping under their son’s crib at the York Hospital Pediatrics to Facebook on July 5, and it has since gone viral.

In a report by ABC 13, Andre headed to the hospital after ending his shift, as he wanted to be with his 20-month-old son. Amy told the news service, “I thought to myself after working all night he didn’t have to come to the hospital.”

“He could have went home to sleep.”

According to Amy, their son’s hospital room was equipped with a crib and a sleeper chair. She said she herself was asleep in the chair when her husband entered the room, and she said at first she had no idea he was there.

“He could have asked me to get up, but he didn’t because he knew how tired I was,” Amy said. “He’s a great man.”

However, when she awoke, she found the Pennsylvania father curled up and sleeping under their son’s crib. She couldn’t resist taking a photo of the endearing sight and immediately posting it to Facebook.

“This is a picture of a hard working man dedicated to his family!! After working all night third shift, he’s right here with his son who is in the hospital. He’s so tired but he’s here!! Father of the year award goes to Andre Palmer!!! I love you more than words baby,” she captioned the photo.

The posted image has gone viral, with 7.8k reactions and 1,6k shares at the time of writing this article.

Amy did later reveal that she couldn’t leave her tired husband sleeping under the crib for too long, saying, “I didn’t leave him there, I quickly got him up into the bed/chair I was sleeping in, but not before taking the picture that I felt spoke volumes about the good person, husband and father he truly is.”

According to a report in the International Business Times, since the Facebook post was made on July 5, the couple’s young son AJ is doing “much better” and is reportedly happy and back home with the family.

Amy later posted another image on Facebook showing how much better AJ was doing since his last treatment and following “a long and exhausting day.”

In her updated post, Amy said, “I am so overwhelmed with so much emotion right now. I just want to take a minute to thank everyone who reached out to us whether by sharing the story, commenting, or sending messages. I appreciate all of the prayers and thoughts.”

“I took the picture because I thought what a selfless thing for my husband to do. He could have went home after work, he could have asked me to get up. I would have never imagined that it would have touched so many people.”

Amy went on to explain how it was early in the morning when her husband arrived at the hospital after first finishing his shift and then dropping their daughter at daycare. She said that the hospital had been “amazing” the whole time they were there, although if they knew what her husband had been through, she said they might have given the Pennsylvania father somewhere to sleep.
