Teresa Giudice Breaks Down During ‘Good Morning America’ Interview

Teresa Giudice appeared on Good Morning America Tuesday and had to take a break at one point to compose herself after breaking into tears. Mara Schiavocampo was talking to the Real Housewives of New Jersey star about what has been a period in her life that is full of struggle. Teresa recently finished serving an 11-month prison sentence for fraud. In March, her husband, Joe, began a 41-month sentence for conspiracy and bankruptcy fraud. It was when she was asked if she had given him any advice about prison life that Giudice looked away and teared up.

Teresa and Joe Giudice married in 1999, and their sentences were handed down in 2014. As reported by People, Teresa served her jail time at Danbury Correctional Institute. She was released in December, and Joe turned himself in three months later. The events that led to the conviction of Teresa and Joe Giudice were related to information they provided about their income.

Specifically, they were found guilty of exaggerating their income when applying for loans between 2001 and 2008, before the debut of RHONJ, and then hiding their increased income when they filed for bankruptcy after the first season of the reality show. There were 39 counts in their indictment, among them were conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, bank fraud, making false statements on loan applications, and bankruptcy fraud. Joe Giudice also failed to file taxes for years 2004 to 2008. The government says that he made about $1 million during that time.

An added concern for Teresa and her family is what the future holds when Joe is released from prison. He is an Italian citizen, so it’s possible Joe Giudice may be deported when he finishes his prison sentence. After Teresa returned from her break in the GMA interview, Mara commented that the future is still uncertain for the Giudice family. Teresa responded that she doesn’t agree.

“No, I think our future is not uncertain. He’s gonna be home, we’re gonna be together, and that’s what I’m looking forward to.”

Teresa and Joe Giudice have four children together — Gia (age 15), Gabrielle (age 11), Milania (age 10), and Audriana (age 6). Teresa said that although they miss their father terribly, they are doing as well as can be expected and are strong children.

Teresa Guidice’s return home will be featured in the debut of Season 8 of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, which airs this Sunday night on Bravo TV. The program will follow her and her family as they work through her return and Joe’s departure. Also expected to be part of the new season is Teresa Giudice’s relationship with her sister-in-law, Melissa Gorga. The two have had their problems in the past, but both women seem to believe that they have moved past them and are now in a better place. Teresa commented that she feels like things are “like they used to be” between them.

Gorga added, “We have like a funny banter together and we have fun together. I just think that she’s calmer, just a little bit calmer.”

So how does Teresa feel about what she has come through in the last couple of years, and where she is at this point in her life?

“You do grow, and you learn from your experiences, and that’s obviously what happened to me.”

Along with Teresa Giudice, The Real Housewives of New Jersey includes Jacqueline Laurita, Teresa’s sister-in-law Melissa Gorga, Dolores Catania, and Siggy Flicker. The Real Housewives of New Jersey is one of eight Real Housewives shows currently airing on Bravo. The first was The Real Housewives of Orange County, which debuted in 2006.
