ABC Announces 2016 Fall Premiere Dates

ABC has finally announced the fall premiere dates for our favorite shows!

According to Variety, the television network released the lineup on Tuesday, revealing that they would be starting their premieres a week early with the season 23 premiere of Dancing with the Stars on September 12 (typically networks follow a tradition of starting their premieres the week of September 19, the day after the Emmy Awards).

One of the major changes with the 2016-2017 ABC lineup is the elimination of Shonda Rhimes’ Thursday night “TGIT” block, as the sixth season of Scandal has been moved to mid-season to accommodate Kerry Washington’s pregnancy, and moving to its time slot is the brand new legal drama Notorious, which stars Covert Affairs’ Piper Perabo and Graceland’s Daniel Sunjata. Despite the change, Shondaland’s Grey’s Anatomy will remain in the 8 p.m. time slot and How to Get Away with Murder will continue airing at 10 p.m.

Designated Survivor, one of the fall’s most anticipated new dramas, starring Kiefer Sutherland will premiere on Wednesday, September 21. This is also the same night Speechless, another new series, premieres. ABC’s new Monday night drama Conviction, starring Hayley Atwell, will premiere on October 3, and the all-new series American Housewife will debut on Tuesday, October 11.

Along with the many new series, most of the fan-favorites are returning to ABC for a new season. Season 8 of Modern Family will premiere Wednesday, September 21, and Season 6 of Last Man Standing will premiere on Friday, September 23. Once Upon a Time and Quantico will premiere their new seasons on Sunday, September 25, while Season 8 of The Middle and Season 3 of Fresh off the Boat will premiere on Tuesday, October 11.
