Patrick Kane arrested over taxi dispute

Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane was arrested Sunday morning in Buffalo, New York after a dispute over a taxi fare ended in robbery and assault.

According to reports, Kane was paying for the taxi ride when the driver claimed he didn’t have $1.20 in change for the $15 Kane handed him for the $12.80 fare. Kane’s reaction? according to the the driver, Kane took the $15 back, punched him in the face, grabbed his throat and broke his glasses.

Buffalo police said in a statement that Kane and his cousin were arrested on charges of second-degree robbery, fourth-degree criminal mischief and theft of services. They also noted that the taxi driver had injuries that would back up the statement made to police.

There’s no official word from the Kane camp on their side of the story, although Blackhawks spokesman Brandon Faber issued the following statement: “We are aware of the allegations towards Patrick Kane. He is a big part of our organization and a team leader and we stand behind him. As we are still collecting all the facts, it would be premature to comment further at this time.”
