Eva Green: Is She Tim Burton’s New Muse?

Director Tim Burton is known for working repeatedly with certain actors and actresses. Johnny Depp is an example, and Burton has worked with him on eight films in a span of 26 years, starting with Edward Scissorhands in 1990. Another actress seen in several Tim Burton movies is the director’s ex-partner, Helena Bonham Carter, who he started working with in 2001 on the moviePlanet of the Apes where Burton allegedly fell in love with Helena.

After 13 years together, Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter went their separate ways. Tim and Helena share two children, and despite their separation, they remain friends. Since their split, however, Burton has not directed a film starring his ex-partner. Helena appeared in the recently released Alice Through the Looking Glass, which is the sequel to Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, but Burton did not direct the sequel and instead acted as a producer. Does this mean that Burton is looking for a new muse?

Tim Burton’s newest film, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, will be released on September 30. The film features Eva Green as Miss Peregrine, and Tim Burton opened up about what made him show interest in the actress, as reported by W Magazine.

“Eva was not instantly knowable. There was something private and mysterious about her, and that’s not common in this day and age. People think she’s ‘dark,’ but she’s more interesting than that.

“We share a complicated way of looking at things. We both have an interest in the unusual.”

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is based on the novel of the same title written by Ransom Riggs. The movie is about a group of peculiar orphans who have strange abilities. The children reside on an island where Miss Peregrine, who has the ability to transform into a peregrine, takes care of them.

In the book, Ransom Riggs described Miss Peregrine as an old lady, but Tim Burton opted to go a different route, and he had only one actress in mind — Eva Green.

“You know, Mary Poppins is f*****g weird. And Miss Peregrine is the weirdest version of that weird character. There was only one person I could see in that role.”

Eva Green also talked about her character, as reported by ET Canada, and the 35-year-old actress said that she had fun while filming.

“Miss Peregrine is like a dark Mary Poppins. She has the ability to manipulate time and uses her powers to protect the children. Miss Peregrine will kill for them. And she does! Which was fun.”

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is not Tim Burton’s first movie with Eva Green. Their first movie together was Dark Shadows, released in 2012, where Eva played the role of a witch named Angelique Bouchard. In one particular scene, Eva Green and Johnny Depp, who played a vampire, had a steamy kissing scene while bouncing off walls and trying to kill each other. Burton said that it was Eva’s idea to wear red underwear for that scene.

Tim Burton only has good things to say about Eva Green, which sparked the rumor of a romance brewing between the two. There is no proof of that being true, but a close friend of Tim Burton said that Eva Green may be Tim’s new muse.

“All I can say is that Eva seems to be his new muse. He finds her very inspiring.”

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children stars Eva Green, Asa Butterfield, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris O’Dowd, Judi Dench, and Rupert Everett. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on September 30. Check out the trailer below.
