The Duggar family has once again secured a spot in the TLC lineup with a second season of Counting On confirmed by the network. The confirmation comes following a big announcement by Jinger Duggar.
The Duggar daughter announced that she was courting professional soccer player Jeremy Vuolo, an announcement that came at a time that TLC was still unsure if they would renew the Duggar program for a second round. Following the announcement, it was revealed that the Duggars would get another season on the network and that season 2 would premier sooner rather than later.
People Magazine revealed during the Jinger Duggar courtship announcement that Counting On would return later this summer.
“PEOPLE can exclusively reveal that Jinger Duggar, 22, and professional soccer player Jeremy Vuolo, 28, are officially courting – and their courtship will be a big part of the new season of Counting On when it returns to TLC later this summer.”
The renewal announcement was overshadowed by the courtship announcement, which was heavily focused on by the media this week. However, the renewal is big news for Duggar fans as the show was in limbo until the courtship announcement. As of March of this year, TLC executives had yet to make a decision on the fate of Counting On with the network noting it was still in consideration. Therefore, it seems that Jinger Duggar’s perfectly timed courtship announcement likely sealed the deal for TLC who has confirmed the second season.
A second confirmation of the Counting On Season 2 premier taking place later this summer came from a local television network in Texas. KGNS reported that the Duggar family was in Laredo, Texas, filming for a program that would air on TLC later this summer.
“A family who is part of a TV series on TLC is in Laredo this week. Members of the Duggar Family are in town, spending some time at Bridge Ministries of Laredo. Filming is underway as part of the television series ‘Counting On.’ The show will air later this summer.”
The station noted that the Duggars were in the area and that film crews were right behind them. They reported that the footage taken in Laredo would be aired “later this summer” on TLC. With a second season of Counting On confirmed, many are wondering how the series will be funded by the network as many sponsors have dropped out of ad spots on the show as a result of the scandals that plagued the Duggar’s oldest son Josh.
A movement to have the Duggar’s taken off the air succeeded with many sponsors opting out of any and all Duggar programming. Despite the lack of sponsors, Counting On somehow made it from a preliminary mini-series to a full series. Though many sponsors have opted out of sponsoring the family’s show, it seems that TLC may have found a way to circumvent the issue by selling ad space on their website and through sponsored video posts.
As the Inquisitr previously reported, the network seems to be heavily utilizing the Duggar family on their TLC.me platform. Counting On exclusive interviews, mini-clips and even full episodes are all featured on the website along with in-video advertisements.
While many sponsors have asked not to be used during Counting On ad time, it is unclear if the sponsors on the in-video ads from the TLC.me platform are aware they are running on Duggar content as many sponsors may pay for an ad block on the platform without regard to programming.
What do you think about TLC renewing the Duggar series Counting On for a second season? Will you be watching Counting On Season 2 when it airs later this summer?
