Say Hello To Cloud Atlas [New Trailer]

The massively anticipated, first theatrical trailer for Cloud Atlas is now online. Arduously adapted from David Mitchell’s novel by bona fide visionaries The Wachowskis (The Matrix Trilogy) and Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run), the team also co-direct the movie.

Starring Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Keith David, Jim Broadbent, Jim Sturgess, Hugh Grant, Susan Sarandon, Hugo Weaving and Ben Whishaw, the multi-stranded plot sweeps through time, location, and six stories that begins in the 19th Century and includes a post-armageddon future.

One of the major changes in the Wachowski-Tykwer adaptation is that the same characters will play more than one character and operate as “transmigrating souls.” More on this device explained in this fantastic New Yorkerarticle.

The Wachowskis have said their model for the film was 2001: A Space Odyssey, a film they loved as children. Turned on to the book by Natalie Portman who raved about it on the set of V For Vendetta (produced by the Wachowskis), this profoundly ambitious film will receive a special presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival which opens today.

With a running time of 2 hours and 44 minutes, expectations that Cloud Atlas will be both an epic movie and a strong awards season contender are high. The film hits U.S theaters on October 26 and debuts in the UK March 22, 2013.
