Newest ‘Game Of Thrones’ Theory Surrounding Arya Could Turn Westeros Upside Down [Spoilers]

Game of Thrones has given its viewers quite a few surprises over the years, but a new fan theory has the show dropping its biggest shocker so far. This shocker is one that some people might have even seen coming based on the way the most recent episode ended. For those who didn’t actually watch the last episode, you might want to stop reading now, because if this theory is correct, it really will turn Westeros on its ear.

When we left Game of Thrones, we saw Arya Stark supposedly mortally wounded and fleeing from The Waif. Eventually, that flight turned into a bit of a decoy as it turned out Arya was trying to lure her pursuer. The episode ended when The Waif had “cornered” Arya and then the two were going to fight it out. Every fight between the two so far had seen The Waif win hands down. But when we cut away to the next scene where Arya is back in the House of Black and White, she’s hanging up the bloodied and battered head of The Waif.

That was enough of a surprise, but the thing that really had some GoT fans really confused was when Jaqen tells Arya that she is finally “no one.” Arya responds that she is Arya Stark, and she is going home. So, after she says this and walks away, we see Jaqen give a bit of a smile and a nod. This makes very little sense considering two episodes earlier, it had been he who sent an assassin after his little protege. So why would a group of assassins, who are some of the most feared in the entire world of Game of Thrones, suddenly willing to let one of their own just walk off?

A writer for Wired has come up with a theory that makes quite a bit of sense, even if fans of the show would be furious. This theory posits that the reason we didn’t see the fight between the two students of the Faceless Men is because the person we thought won the fight didn’t win the fight. This theory puts forward the idea the Waif did kill Arya. Having carried out the task, she has completed her training and is officially a Faceless Man.

The reason Jaqen gave that smile when “Arya” said she was going “home” was because she was about to reek some serious havoc back at Winterfell. In other words, the end of the last episode was the beginning of one heck of a long con. If the real Arya Stark is dead, it would certainly make for some very interesting storylines moving forward. One way or another, we’re about see the Stark clan have another reunion between Jon, Sansa, and their sister.

If their sister is not, in fact, their sister, and there is some other plan unfolding, Westeros could be changed in very shocking ways. This theory has some rather large holes that make it hard to swallow completely. The actress who plays The Waif has confirmed she is off the show. She sat down for an interview with the Hollywood Reporter where she was flat-out asked whether her character was really dead. For her part, Faye Marsay said she wasn’t privy to that kind of talk.

Marsay did add she’s smart enough to know you can never second guess what the writers are doing. You also can never know exactly where the story is going. It seems unlikely Arya Stark is really a sleeper agent, but honestly, stranger things have happened in the world of Game of Thrones, and no one even batted an eye.
