Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer Personally Reviewing Every Single Resume

Marissa Mayer, a former Google executive and the new CEO of Yahoo has picked up a habit from her former Google bosses: She’s reviewing and approving every single application that comes across the company’s hiring desk.

With more than 15,000 employees and new applicants constantly being examined for positions, the review of applications is no small task, especially when you consider that Marissa Mayer is responsible for turning the company into a powerhouse content and platform player like it use to be.

Speaking to Business Insider, one source says Mayer’s micromanagement of job applicants has had both positive and negative consequences. According to the source who lost out on two great hires because of a slow acceptance period:

“It’s gotten a little frustrating.”

However, that same employee admits:

“I can’t say that I blame her.”

Marissa is paying attention to new hires because she wants to avoid “C-list” workers who don’t really want to be with the company, a problem Yahoo spent years combating as the company’s earnings and infrastructure failed.

Making sure the employees who work at Yahoo are excited is an important part of Marissa’s management style. Since arriving at Yahoo, the offices lights have been left on later into the night, employees have been given shiny new smartphones, and free food is now offered to all Yahoo employees.

So, what do employees have to do in order to keep their new privileges? Marissa Mayer has asked that everyone work hard, faster, and smarter than they have in the past.
