Emily Austen: Former Fox Sports Reporter Shows Her Racism — Of Course She Worked For Fox News

Emily Austen used to be a reporter for Fox Sports — until she was caught on camera being completely racist. Austen was a Fox Sports Florida and Fox Sports Sun sideline reporter who covers the Orlando Magic as well as the Tampa Bay Rays. It’s not surprising that someone associated with Fox News is a racist, but Emily made this so much worse for herself by making these statements during a live broadcast on the Barstool Sports Rundown show. This is usually recorded and then uploaded onto Barstool, but this week’s show was broadcast on Facebook Live.

There is a full 35-minute video clearly displaying Emily Austen making anti-semitic statements, while also racially insulting Chinese and Latino people, NY Daily News tells us. But Emily wasn’t alone. She was joined by her fellow Barstool personalities “Big Cat,” “El Presidente,” and “KFC,” who happily egged her on into making some of her racist comments and anecdotes. It’s important to not just single Emily Austen out — everyone in this segment is responsible and frankly they should all be fired, not just Emily.

This video begins with the four of them annoyingly trying to find a stable position to put the camera in, because, of course, they didn’t decide to figure this out before they started recording. If you’re watching the video, just go ahead and jump to the 8:44 mark, since that’s when the show finally begins.

At the 11:15 mark, Emily Austen refers to the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Kevin Love as “a little b**ch” and “a diva.” And unfortunately, there is a lot of random topics that are brought up after this, until we hit the 24:45 mark. At this point, they begin talking about an undocumented Mexican student who earned a full ride to the University of Texas. Austen says, “I didn’t even know Mexicans were that smart.”

“…That’s f***ed up,” Emily continues. “I didn’t mean it like that. You see, you guys know that the Chinese guy is always the smartest guy in math class.” El Presidente responded to this by saying, “no, that’s a fair point,” confirming the idea that she just said was perfectly fine. Big Cat turned to her and point-blank asked her what she thought about Jews, asking whether or not she thinks they’re stingy, with the three men laughing as she spoke. Talking about “the way I used to talk to the Jews in Boca” when she was younger working as in the service industry.

They were bringing up Asian stereotypes and Mexican stereotypes, and El Presidente chimed in with “if you’re going with, like, the Asian smart stereotype, the Mexicans are like the boxing stereotype. Like, they’re the ones who don’t back up. They don’t have the stereotype of being nerds.”

And then KFC had to reply to all of this by saying, “Mexicans are hard workers.” And everybody else nodded and verbally agreed, sincerely, and they all thought that this was perfectly okay and not racist or offensive at all. KFC went on to say that he is okay with illegal immigrants because, “you get cheap labor out of them.”

So what we have here are a bunch of white people talking about things they don’t understand and unknowingly being racist in the process.

Steve Tello, senior vice-president of Fox Sports Florida, made sure to tell Deadspin that their comments did not represent Fox Sports in any way.

“We were made aware that Emily Austen appeared in a social media video unaffiliated with Fox Sports in which she made insensitive and derogatory comments. She was not speaking on behalf of Fox Sports, nor do we condone any of the statements she made in the video. Emily has been advised that her comments were unacceptable, and she is not scheduled to appear on any upcoming Fox Sports Florida or Fox Sports Sun broadcasts.”

As for El Presidente, Big Cat, and KFC — or, using their real names — David Portnoy, Dan Katz and Kevin Clancy — they should receive the same punishment as Emily Austen.
