‘Fixer Upper’ Stars Chip And Joanna Gaines Are The Power Couple Of Home Improvement

Fans of Fixer Upper know what this wildly popular series is all about, as Chip and Joanna Gaines take on what they call “the worst house in the best neighborhood” and then turn it into a dream home for their clients. They’ve renovated dozens of homes for Fixer Upper, and they’re still going strong as they transform the city of Waco, Texas, one home at a time.

Joanna has the design vision and Chip is the one who executes the plan, turning run-down houses into beautifully restored and tastefully designed homes. Together, Chip and Joanna can tackle even the most run-down and neglected home, and give it a jaw-dropping renovation. During a recent interview with CBS’ Jane Pauley, they discussed that although Joanna has the eye for design, Chip was the original fixer upper. He flipped his first house while still attending Baylor University, and mostly through trial and error learned how to successfully renovate homes.

Chip’s sense of humor is what attracted Joanna to him, and the couple was married on May 31, 2003 in McLennan County, Texas. The newlyweds started renovating homes together and 4 years ago, Joanna was discovered through an article she wrote for a blog. Then, HGTV came calling, and within a few weeks the cameras were rolling. Although Chip was a natural in front of the camera, giving viewers a good laugh with his comedic flair, fans fell in love with Joanna’s designs.

Chip likes to jokingly say that he was supposed to be the star of the show, but that the viewers felt otherwise and gravitated toward Joanna. Undoubtedly, their massive fan base would agree that both Chip and Joanna are home renovation and design stars in their own right. Besides filming Fixer Upper and all that the show entails, these natural born entrepreneurs also run a real estate company, developed a new furniture line, opened a bed and breakfast that they renovated themselves, and have a new book that is coming out in the fall.

According to the Magnolia Market website, Chip and Joanna’s first book titled The Magnolia Story will be available on October 18 and it can be pre-ordered. Chip and Joanna’s book was written with the help of New York Times bestselling collaborator, Mark Dagostino. The book will give fans a closer look at how their life story has unfolded, providing details beginning from how their childhoods and their faith helped to shape Chip and Joanna into the people they are today. Fans will get all the details on how Chip and Joanna met and all about their courtship, marriage, and their life today with their four adorable children. They will also reveal new details, such as how Chip and Joanna have learned to keep their relationship steady and strong.

In regard to Chip and Joanna’s brilliant home renovation skills, the book will also take a look into their very first joint project, including the ups and downs they experienced when starting their home improvement business together. Readers will learn all about Chip and Joanna’s famous Magnolia brand, how that name came about, and how the resulting outlets such as Magnolia Market, Magnolia Homes and, of course, Chip and Joanna’s series Fixer Upper, all came about.

“I knew when I married Chip in 2003 that our life would be an adventure, but through all of the ups and downs I would never have imagined we’d land here. What I do know is that I couldn’t have asked for a better partner to share it with,” Joanna shares. “We are so excited to announce that we will be releasing our first book, The Magnolia Story, on October 18, 2016! In it we share how Chip managed to grab my attention from the very start, about our first flip house collaborations together, our first real successes, and even the big building project that almost cost us everything.”

Besides Fixer Upper, Chip and Joanna’s biggest project to date has been getting Magnolia Market, along with its trademark silos and new bakery, up and running. On any given week, Magnolia Market can easily draw up to 25,000 visitors. The market is a place visitors can spend hours browsing, shopping, playing games, or even getting a bite to eat from one of the many food trucks on site.

Always the visionaries, Chip and Joanna placed in the center of the property several lawn games where families can spend time playing a game called corn-hole, having potato sack races, or just throwing a football around. A garden on the northwest corner of the property offers kids a wooden teepee to play under, and books to read. There are several flowerbeds filled with seasonal plants and flowers, and this is an area to explore and possibly even run into a goat or two. Magnolia Market gives visitors more than just a place to shop, but also offers areas to have fun, or to just spend time relaxing with friends and family.
