Rihanna Might Be In The Running For ‘Scarface’ Remake

Rihanna could be in the running for a role in the proposed Scarface remake currently in-development at Universal, the folks at Cinema Blend are reporting. Since nothing has been officially carved into Hollywood stone as of this writing, chances are this is nothing more than rumor. However, the fact that Universal is considering a remake of the classic crime drama is certainly interesting, especially considering the popularity of the Al Pacino version.

The remake of Scarface is still in the very early stages of production. Training Day writer David Ayer was recently hired to tackle scripting duties on the flick, so it could be a while before anything significant is produced. Still, it would seem the project is moving forward.

According to The Sun, director Brian De Palma’s gangster classic is a personal favorite of Rihanna, so her involvement would probably be a dream come true for the young singer-turned-actress.

“Rihanna loves Scarface. Some of her music videos have been based on Michelle’s character, Elvira,” a source explained. “She knows all the words and even has her walk perfected.”

Earlier this year, Rihanna made her big-screen debut in the Peter Berg sci-fi flop Battleship, a feature film based on the iconic board game. Although the pop star reportedly got high marks for her performance, the movie itself wasn’t particularly well-received. So impressed were producers with the young lady’s debut that they reportedly tapped her to star as the villain in the next Fast and the Furious flick.

Next year, Rihanna is slated to appear as herself in the star-studded comedy The End of the World starring Jonah Hill, James Franco, Jason Segel, Paul Rudd, Seth Rogen, Michael Cera, Jay Baruchel, and Danny McBride. Not happy with conquering the world of live action cinema, the singer will lend her voice to Happy Smekday! with Jim Parsons.

Do you think Rihanna is a good choice for the Scarface remake?
