The Joe Jonas Curse: Exes Gigi Hadid, Taylor Swift, And Demi Lovato Suffer Breakups In The Same Week

Three of Joe Jonas’ ex-girlfriends split from their famous boyfriends in the same week, and some see this odd occurrence as more than a coincidence. One report has even proclaimed that Demi Lovato’s, Taylor Swift’s, and Gigi Hadid’s recent breakups are the result of “the Joe Jonas curse.”

As Hollywood Life reports, Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris kicked off the summer of celebrity splits by breaking up on June 2. According to The Sun, Zayn Malik dumped Taylor’s close pal Gigi Hadid the next day. The Joe Jonas “curse” struck Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama one day later as young Hollywood’s hottest celebrity pairs continued to fall like dominoes.

“Demi and Wilmer’s split was the moment we realized that the Joe Jonas curse was real,” Hollywood Life writes. “Demi and Joe dated for a few months in 2010.”

Twitter also believes that the curse is real.

Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama were together for six years before they split, while Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris had been dating for 15 months. Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid had the shortest relationship of all the couples affected by the so-called Joe Jonas curse, and E! News reports that they broke up and reconciled multiple times during their seven months together.

Gigi Hadid was the member of the cursed celebrity trio who most recently dated Joe Jonas. Last November, Gigi started dating Zayn Malik just two weeks after she and Joe had called it quits. During an interview with the Mirror, Joe Jonas threw a little shade the new couple’s way by commenting on how quickly Gigi moved on with another man.

“I think it’s interesting that she moved on so quickly, I mean it was definitely very quick,” the DNCE frontman said.

Joe Jonas has also talked about his split from Demi Lovato. According to the “Cake by the Ocean” singer, he was unhappy during their short relationship, but he stayed with Demi because he didn’t want to make things worse for her while she was struggling with addiction and other issues. Joe also admitted that he didn’t want to damage his own image.

“I really got to know her and got to see the ins and outs of what she was struggling with, like drug abuse,” Joe wrote in a 2013 tell-all essay for Vulture. “I felt like I needed to take care of her, but at the same time I was living a lie, because I wasn’t happy but felt like I had to stay in it for her, because she needed help. I couldn’t express any of that, of course, because I had a brand to protect.”

Joe has remained on friendly terms with Demi since their split, and he and Taylor Swift have also buried the hatchet. As Just Jared reports, Taylor and Joe didn’t end things on the best note when they called it quits in 2008. Taylor told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres that Joe dumped her over the phone, and he spent as little time as possible ridding himself of his girlfriend.

“When I find that person that is right for me, he’ll be wonderful,” optimistic Taylor said of her romantic future. “When I look at that person, I’m not even going to remember the boy who broke up with me over the phone in 27 seconds when I was 18.”

There was speculation that Taylor Swift’s past relationship with Joe Jonas would have a negative effect on her friendship with Gigi Hadid when the model started dating the Jo Bro last year. However, as Entertainment Tonight reports, Gigi and Joe went on a double date with Taylor and Calvin last June. Karlie Kloss joined them as a fifth wheel.

While all of Joe Jonas’ exes are suffering from heartbreak, he’s possibly found love with a replacement model for Gigi. According to Just Jared, the 26-year-old singer was recently photographed biking through NYC with 20-year-old Instagram model Eileen Kelly (a.k.a. @killerandasweetthang).

The New York Post reports that baby-faced Eileen Kelly is a controversial social media star who has earned a reputation for fueling “fantasies of men who want sex with young girls.” Kelly says it doesn’t bother her that her racy photos have earned her a lot of creepy followers, but she eventually plans on trading her Insta-fame for a career in sex-ed.
