‘Finding Dory’ Trailer Features First Lesbian Couple In A Disney Pixar Movie?

Finding Dory might feature the first lesbian couple ever shown in a Disney Pixar film. A 2-minute trailer for the Finding Nemo sequel briefly showed two women in a scene from the movie.

While the LGBT community is largely thrilled about the possibility of a lesbian couple being shown in the Finding Dory movie, many American parents and Disney fans are not. A boycott movement against the new Pixar film is already underway and rapidly garnering signatures.

Disney Pixar has not yet responded to questions about the supposed lesbian couple being shown in the Finding Dory trailer, Fox News reports.

The two women shown standing close to a stroller with a child are only on the screen for about three seconds. The clip is so brief, many folks did not initially realize the two women might be a lesbian couple.

Whether or not the characters are gay, or if they are more than animated extras with a brief speaking park, remains entirely unknown.

Disney fan Matthew Gottula is credited with spotting the possible lesbian couple with the little girl in the Finding Dory clip, the Heavy reports. The trailer was published on May 24, tickets for the Finding Nemo sequel went on sale May 31.

The women could be merely sisters, friends, or two strangers who happened to be standing near each other. Because Disney Pixar is remaining mum on the subject, it is only conjecture that the female character who says, “Poor baby, let me get that for you” in the Finding Dory clip is a lesbian, based upon her short hair style and proximity to another woman and a child in the scene.

Ellen DeGeneres is the voice of Dory. The comedian and talk show host came out as a lesbian in 1997. She and Portia de Rossi were married in 2008, the New York Daily News reports.

During “The Puppy Episode Part 1” on the short-lived ABC sitcom, Ellen, the actress announced she was a lesbian in an airport loudspeaker. After the episode aired, DeGeneres became the face of the LGBT movement.

Before the possible first lesbian couple in a Disney Pixar film appeared in a Finding Dory trailer, the LGBT community was campaigning for more gay characters to appear in movies.

The #GiveElsaAGirlfriend movement to prompt Disney to pair the Frozen Elsa character with a lesbian significant other made national headlines just a few weeks before the Finding Dory trailer went viral. The LGBT movie movement also urged Marvel producers to give Captain America a boyfriend.

Finding Dory boycott movements over the featuring of a possible lesbian couple, and an overall boycott of Disney Pixar, have already begun. Both the movie trailer and the boycotts have sparked heated debate on social media.

Some supporters of the lesbian couple cameo mocked those upset about their inclusion by noting Ellen DeGeneres is openly gay and the voice of the little fish looking for her family.

While some of the folks boycotting the idea of exposing their young children to homosexuality might actually be fans of DeGeneres’ talk show, they feel the sexuality subject broached by the LGBT reference in the trailer is not age appropriate for the Finding Dory movie.

Some claim Disney already introduced a gay couple in one of its movies. A Frozen scene reportedly shows one male character waving from a home sauna to another man and four children sitting nearby.

“We know what we made, but at the same time I feel like once we hand the film over it belongs to the world so I don’t like to say anything, and let the fans talk. I think it’s up to them,” Frozen co-director and screenwriter said during a 2014 interview about the sauna scene.
