Snoop Dogg: ‘Roots’ Remake Rant, Says Show Should Be Boycotted

Tonight, the new Roots remake will air, and Snoop Dogg is speaking out about it. Snoop Dogg is not happy at all about the remake that is going to begin airing on Memorial Day. Rolling Stone shared his big speech, in which Snoop Dogg said he didn’t think the show should even air. Reportedly, he is hoping for a big boycott, but it doesn’t look like that will be happening. Roots is a four-part miniseries that will air on The History Channel. It is a remake of the original, and Snoop Dogg won’t be watching.

Snoop Dogg posted a video on Instagram that is all about his thoughts on this show. Snoop Dogg said, “I’m sick of this s***. How the f*** are they going to put Roots on, on Memorial Day? They going to just to keep beating that s*** into our heads about how they did us, huh?”

After that, Snoop Dogg goes on to explain that he never watches shows about slavery. Roots is not the only series that he will be avoiding. Snoop Dogg goes on to say that he hasn’t even watched 12 Years a Slave, which won Best Picture at the Academy Awards in 2014. His reasoning is that it just “keep[s] showing the abuse we took hundreds and hundreds of years ago.” Snoop Dogg thinks that this topic shouldn’t be made into new movies or television shows.

That isn’t where Snoop Dogg stops, though. He continues complaining about the show, saying, “I ain’t watching that s**t, and I advise you motherf***ers as real ni**as like myself; f*** them television shows.” He thinks that black people should make their own shows about how things are today, instead of rehashing how it was in the past. Snoop Dogg is hoping that people listen to him and don’t watch Roots when it starts tonight.

Not everyone agrees with Snoop Dogg, though. T.I. actually agrees with the idea of Roots and is happy about the show. T.I. does happen to be in the mini-series, though. He says, “The quest for truth should be a lifelong journey. From the time you’re born to the time you die, you’re supposed to be seeking knowledge and truth. This is a piece of it. This is a huge, huge chapter, so I think it’s incredibly important.” If fans are listening to T.I. instead of Snoop Dogg, then they will be watching the show tonight.

Hollywood Life shared about more about Roots. A lot of people are excited to watch it, even though Snoop Dogg is not a fan and thinks it should be boycotted by everyone. This mini-series will not be something that will air every Monday night, but instead it will air four nights in a row. The finale of Roots will air on Thursday night. It stars s Malachi Kirby as Kunta Kinte, Anna Paquin, Forest Whitaker, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Laurence Fishburne, Matthew Goode, Anika Noni Rose and T.I. The mini-series follows the book Roots: The Saga of an American Family. This is something that you can set the DVR for and watch the entire thing at once or enjoy a new episode each night. It might even make a great show to binge watch.

Are you shocked to hear what Snoop Dogg has to say about Roots? Do you think that this show is a good idea? Sound off in the comments below and don’t miss Roots tonight on The History Channel.
