A Neat Hack To Avoid ‘Game of Thrones’ Spoilers

Have you been once, twice, or always spoiled randomly by your inconsiderate friends on social media on the latest episode of Game of Thrones? If you had something else to do or your internet gave up on you when the latest episode of Game of Thrones released, then you are probably susceptible to the horror of Game of Thrones spoilers crawling all over your social media feed. Before, there were only two ways to go around this dilemma. First is to to just let go and let all the spoilers deface you before you get your hands on the newest Game of Thrones episode, which is, let’s admit it, pretty sad. Second, you can just shut yourself from social media, which is, in all honesty, just impossible at this point.

So, if you are almost giving up and are completely exhausted trying to cover your eyes and ears to block out the latest Game of Thrones spoilers, we’ve found this neat little hack than can let you continue life normally, sans the spoilers.

First, ditch Mozilla Firefox. Our sweet little spoiler-free trick is actually a Google Chrome extension, so if you’re still on Firefox, it just won’t work. Okay, so if you’re still reading this on Firefox or Safari or Microsoft Edge (is anyone even using that?), copy this link, close the window now, and re-open on Google Chrome (and no, Google Chrome isn’t paying for this advertising).

Now that we’re all on the same page (and browser), we give you the ultimate Game of Thrones spoiler solution: the Game of Spoils. What is Game of Spoils? The Chrome extension page reads as follows.

“A Game of Thrones spoiler blocking plugin for your Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, and Google News feeds.

“Detects and blacks out any posts on Facebook or Reddit, tweets on Twitter, or stories on Google News that mention Game of Thrones or many other GoT-related terms, such as ‘Winterfell’ or ‘Targaryen’.

“Any blocked spoiler can be viewed by the brave of heart by clicking on the blacked-out area– this will cause the post to be gradually unveiled, giving you about 3 more seconds to glance away!”

So, how does it actually work? Game of Spoils detects posts which contain Game of Thrones and Game of Thrones-related words and blocks them with a black screen. In addition to the Game of Thrones spoiler-free experience it offers, it has amusing ways to tell you that it has blocked out a possible Game of Thrones spoiler such as the following phrases:

“A potential spoiler here was impaled by a lance at a tournament by a lowly hedge knight, because it dared mention the phrase ‘Targaryen’.”

“A potential spoiler here lost in trial by combat, because it dared mention the phrase ‘Hodor’.”

“A potential spoiler here was infected with a greyscale and quarantined permanently, because it dared mention the phrase ‘Game of Thrones’ “

How neat and witty, too, eh? In addition to its self-appointed Game of Thrones-related keywords, you can even add your own custom phrases to block as of Game of Spoils v1.2.

Even though Game of Spoils has blocked the spoilers for you, you will still have the option to unblock the items if you deem it safe, or you’re just dying to know what’s behind that huge block of spoiler blackness, so don’t fret. You can now safely go through your Facebook, Twitter, or whatever social media news feed you subscribe to, or even safely maneuver Google news, Feedly, Reddit, and other websites of that sort, without having to worry about Game of Thrones spoilers jumping out at you.
