Johnny Depp Domestic Violence: Actor Supported White Ribbon Campaign 2015, Old Allegations Resurface

More details have emerged from Johnny Depp’s alleged abusive past. The actor previously supported the 2015 White Ribbon Campaign as old abuse allegations resurface.

Amber Heard has reportedly been granted a restraining order against Johnny Depp. As previously reported via TMZ, the actress filed a domestic violence restraining order against the actor. Heard has even released the photographic evidence showing the abuse she suffered during her marriage to Depp.

The 30-year-old actress filed the divorce papers on Monday, May 23 after over a year of marriage. Heard originally cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split and requested spousal support, which Depp has reportedly asked the judge to deny. The couple also has no prenup.

In addition, Heard has requested a restraining order against Depp, but the judge has only granted her a temporary restraining order. Heard was seen entering court on Friday morning (May 27) with a black eye, claiming during the hearing that Depp physically assaulted her. Heard, along with her lawyer, Samantha Spector, submitted photos as evidence that Depp abused her throughout most of their marriage. When Heard left court, she was seen crying in a vehicle that escorted her away.

Heard said in a sworn declaration that Depp threw his iPhone at her, hitting her in both the eye and cheek, during a fight that the couple had on Saturday, May 21. She alleges that the actor grabbed her face, pulled her hair, and repeatedly hit her in the face. Heard also accuses the Pirates of the Caribbean star of being high and drunk during their argument. She experienced the same kind of abuse back in April when he pushed her into the floor.

“During the entirety of our relationship, Johnny has been verbally and physically abusive to me. I endured excessive emotional, verbal and physical abuse from Johnny, which has included angry, hostile, humiliating and threatening assaults to me whenever I questioned his authority or disagreed with him.”

Depp has since broken his silence and released a statement about their split on Thursday, May 26. His rep called the domestic violence allegations made against him “false stories, gossip, misinformation, and lies.”

“Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation and lies about his personal life. Hopefully the dissolution of this short marriage will be resolved quickly,” Depp’s rep was quoted in a statement.

It seems like Depp’s rep is on damage control at the moment. Shortly after Heard accused Depp of domestic violence, reports surfaced of the actor’s recent work with the elderly and the mentally disabled. However, that hasn’t stopped some from digging into the actor’s troubled past.

Ironically enough, Depp (along with Heard) supported Stella McCartney’s White Ribbon Campaign in 2015, which created awareness for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. That year, it helped create awareness on social media awareness by combining the use of the hashtag #BeHerVoice that celebrities used to show their support on social media. In a black-and-white photo published on InStyle, Depp is seen holding a brooch that read: “Stop violence against women.”

More has also surfaced from Depp’s alleged abusive past. Fans have been combing the internet and finding excerpts about his alleged anger issues. In a 1994 article on People that’s recirculated on social media, photographer John Walpole spoke out about the time he accidentally picked up Depp’s glass from the bar and upset the actor.

“‘He pulled both my ears very hard,” Walpole told London’s Evening Standard, adding that “some ape” who was with Depp “leaped on my back, put his arm round my neck and tried to force my head to the floor.'”

Of course, Depp’s friends have chalked it up to “just Johnny being Johnny.” Fellow eccentric actor John Waters revealed that he believed the incident wasn’t as bad as it looked to some.

“I think Johnny obviously has a temper, but this is a very minor incident. The room service must have been bad.”

Even Depp’s former fiancé, Winona Ryder, has said that Depp is both “wild and charitable.” Then she was quoted in an interview saying, “I remember my first boyfriend used to smash everything.” She has referred to Depp as being her first boyfriend, according to Pajiba.

Then there’s the following excerpt from Kate Moss’ biography Addicted to Love. Depp dated the supermodel from 1994 to 1998.

“A bouncer at Viper Room reported, ‘I’ve heard people describe Johnny as shy and well mannered. He is when he’s sober. When he drinks he gets a bad, bad temper.’ It was reported that on more than one occasion he objected and could become moody or belligerent when other men seemed overly interested in Kate.”

When you’re rich and famous like Johnny Depp, you will do anything to maintain a squeaky clean image. It has worked out well in the past for Bill Cosby, Mel Gibson, and Sean Penn, among others, notes Pajiba. Depp’s rep is desperately trying to paint the star as a charming bad boy, but it won’t stop the abuse allegations from disappearing.
