Harry Potter Fans Brace Themselves For J.K. Rowling’s New Book

Harry Potter fans across the globe are preparing for the release of author J.K. Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy, which is presently scheduled to hit retail bookshelves on September 27, USA Today reports. Not only is the novel the first post-Potter endeavor by the billionaire writer, the tome also marks Rowling’s first foray into the world of adult storytelling.

Two million hardcover copies of The Casual Vacancy, which is being released simultaneously in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Germany, are slated to arrive next month. A digital version of the book will also be available for those who have turned their backs on print. The suggested retail price of the book is $35, though some outlets will surely offer the book on the cheap during the first few weeks.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Michael Pietsch, Rowling’s American publisher, has stated that Rowling’s latest effort is heavily reminiscent of the works of Charles Dickens.

“I expect the world to be ecstatic at the range of her imaginative reach,” he explained. “This book isn’t ‘Harry Potter.’ It is a completely different concern.”

Diane Roback, children’s editor at Publisher’s Weekly, explained to USA Today that Potter fanatics is likely to be a built-in audience. “Fans who read Harry Potter as children will be one of the core audiences for this book, without a doubt,” she said. “I cannot think of an author who is more beloved by her readers.”

Unfortunately, those who are hoping to get a sneak peek at the material will be extremely disappointed. Like the Harry Potter books before it, The Casual Vacancy won’t be available to critics or the press prior to its September release date. In other words, if you want to know just how good Rowling’s latest literary creation truly is, you’ll have to pick up a copy for yourself.
