GoT’s Emilia Clarke Made Her Parents Watch Her Nude Scene: Here’s Why

Game of Thrones fans have seen time and time again that Emilia Clarke, the actress who plays Daenerys Targaryen, is not afraid to do nude scenes. They might be surprised to learn, though, that Clarke is actually extremely proud of her naked jaunts on the small screen. So much so, in fact, that Clarke sits her family down in front of the tube to watch her all-natural performances. Emilia’s reasons for doing so are quite satisfying.

“I’m kicking a** naked,” Clarke said when she appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert last night.

Clarke went on that appearing in the buff was her way of showing she is a strong, independent woman.

“I did it before in season one and people like to talk about it so I just wanted to come out and do an empowered scene which wasn’t sexual. It was naked, it was strong.”

The scene that Clarke is talking about appeared in the May 15 episode of Game of Thrones, and in it she burns down a building while nude, walking away from the flames unscathed. Emilia’s scene is already being discussed fervently by fans, and The New York Daily News even goes so far as to call the naked and fiery Emilia Clarke moment “now infamous.” So one could call it a hot topic. Cue laugh track.

It wasn’t just the incredible plot twist and scene development that the burning spectacle created, though, that made Emilia Clarke so proud of the scene that she felt she had to show her parents. No, it was the fact that, as Clarke told Colbert, it made her out to be such an empowered, unrestrained, no-rules boss. Girl power, indeed!

Clarke explained the context during her recent appearance on Live With Kelly.

“So my parents were like, ‘We’re watching the show, but darling, you’re not doing much this season,” Emilia explained.

“They’re like, ‘You know, you’re kind of stark.'” Clarke’s words, not mine.

“And I was like, ‘Watch this one,’ and I was like, ‘Are you guys watching the show tonight?’ And they’re like, ‘Yeah, maybe we might just get it on HBO Go or something,’ and I’m like, ‘No,no, no, watch tonight, watch that one.’ And they were trying to get the spoilers out of me and it didn’t work.

Oh, the buildup.

“But I ended up sitting them down and being like, ‘Let’s watch it,’ and instantly regretting it. My dad’s like, ‘Again!'”

Clarke’s father was recalling the last infamous Daenerys Targaryen nude scene that took place in the show’s third season and which saw Clarke walking out onto a cliff in the bare.

Emilia Clarke may have developed somewhat of a reputation for stripping down on Game of Thrones, but she went out of her way when talking to Stephen Colbert to point out she is not a nudist or anything. Even on the show, she said, Clarke has not gotten naked too often; the memorability of Daenerys’s nude scenes just makes it seem that she is one.

“I’d like to remind people the last time I took my clothes off was season 3. That was a while ago. It’s now season 6,” Emilia said.

Clarke did not take back her testament about being enamored with the powerful feeling nudity brings with it, though.

“But this is all me, all proud, all strong. I’m just feeling genuinely happy I said ‘Yes.’ That ain’t no body double!”

Clarke added that, thanks to the nature of the scene, she had enjoyed stripping down even more than the last time she had done it for the show.

“Taking off my clothes is not the easiest thing, but with the magic of the effects, I don’t have to do a season one and go on a cliff and do it.”

“I’m in control of it,” Clarke said.

Most reports agree that the image of Emilia Clarke walking through the flames, naked, having just taken matters into her own hands and set herself free from her oppressors, was pretty badass. What do you think? Make yourself heard in the comments section!
