Did Britney Spears Win The Millennium Award? Brit Disappears After Epic BBMA Performance

Britney Spears made an epic appearance at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night. From the moment Britney hit the red carpet in a sexy short black lace number that showed off her super toned legs (and her underwear), Britney stole the show — and that was to be expected. The pop princess (“now queen of pop”) was set to be presented with the 2016 Millennium Award, which has been received by Beyoncé and Whitney Houston (the only two winners ever) in past years.

Fans were geared up to watch Britney Spears give one incredible performance before she accepted the award — and she delivered. According to People Magazine, Britney performed a medley of her songs, some well known (“Work B***h, “Slave 4 U,” and “Toxic”) and a couple of less popular (in terms of radio-played) tracks (“Touch of My Hand” and “Breathe on Me”).

After her opening song, Britney Spears tore off the top layer of her outfit and showed the world that at 34 (and after two babies), she has still got it. Her body was reminiscent of the one she had in 2000: super toned, in-check, enviable. Fans were elated to see Britney performing, nailing her moves, and owning the stage. While there was some controversy about her apparent lip-synching, most people have accepted that as the norm for a Britney (et al) performance and just watched as this chick totally killed it.

Britney Spears ended her performance on a high note and was met with loud cheers from the audience. While fans waited for someone to run out on stage and present Spears with the Millennium Award, no such thing happened. Instead, the stage went dark. Britney and her dancers hurried off the side and the show’s co-hosts, Ciara and Ludacris, began their opening dialogue.

Britney fans then got excited. Perhaps Spears would come out again later on in the show! Could she perform again? Could there be more Britney air time? Will the star finally announce a date for her new single or her new album? Social media was lit up.

However, the next three hours past and there was no sign of Britney Spears.

According to Bustle, Britney was presented with the Millennium Award — backstage.

“If you were waiting for her to have a slideshow of her accomplishments broadcasted while people told her how amazing she was and there was a speech — either by her or by a big fan of hers — before she accepted the prize, then you were SOL on Sunday,” reported Bustle, adding that the Millennium Award was a much bigger ordeal for Beyoncé back in 2011.

Fans were outraged that Britney Spears didn’t get her moment.

Britney Spears, however, seemed more than happy to be honored with the Millennium Award, and since she’s not really one for long speeches, she seemed okay being presented with the trophy backstage. She tweeted out the following message after accepting.

Do you think Britney Spears should have been on the stage to accept the Millennium Award?
