One Direction Breaks New Record As Harry Styles Breaks Away?

One Direction are among the winners at the Billboard Music Awards 2016, joining Adele, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, and Taylor Swift on the winners list, according to Billboard.

The world-conquering boy band comprised of members Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Liam Payne took out the top duo/group category, beating Maroon 5, twenty one pilots, the Rolling Stones, and U2.

Not only that, the guys have broken the record for most Top Duo/Group wins at the Billboard Music Awards, previously held by Destiny’s Child.

One Direction was also nominated for Top Touring Act, but the boys were bested by Harry Styles’ ex Taylor Swift.

Fans realized last month that if the guys managed to take out the top group this year, they would break the record held by Beyonce and her Destiny’s Child girl bandmates.

Today, the good news arrived that Harry, Liam, Louis, and Niall have pulled it off.

Fans took to social media to congratulate the One Direction guys, who are on hiatus and did not walk the red carpet for the event.

It’s not all great news for the band, though.

The Sun reports that Harry Styles is in the process of moving “as far away from 1D as possible” as rival labels Universal and Sony battle to the secure Harry.

If Styles jumps to Universal, he is likely to sign with Capitol, according to Dan Wootton. Styles will join acts like Eagles, Katy Perry, Beck, and the Beach Boys on the label.

Not only is Harry moving to Capitol Records, he is reported to be distancing himself from bandmates Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson. An insider apparently told Wootton that Harry’s mate Jeff Azoff, son of industry legend Irving Azoff, is masterminding the transition.

Has Jeff decided that Harry needs to leave his boy-band roots well behind as he works to become a more mature, serious actor and solo star?

“It was obvious from day one that Harry wouldn’t stay with Simon Cowell, Syco or a Sony label. He wants to move as far away from the band as possible and for him that means an entirely new team based in America…It’s all part of a masterplan being driven by his friend Jeff Azoff, who has set up his own management company to launch Harry as a solo superstar.”

Wootton, who is disliked by many One Direction fans, also claims to have spoken to a Sony insider, who marveled about the pains Sony Music have been taking to try to keep Harry Styles on their books.

“Harry is being offered so many incentives to stay. They’re breaking the bank for him.”

Wootton hints sheepishly that Harry is not going to be happy with him, because Styles apparently wanted to keep this whole thing a secret until after Dunkirk is released.

Sun reporter Wootton also includes a comment from Harry’s people, who deny the whole claim that Harry is moving away from Sony and One Direction.

“[Harry] has made no decisions about his music future. He is close to many people at Sony and focusing on filming his first movie.”

If Harry ends up working with an entirely new team in America, he will be far away from his best pal Nick Grimshaw. This will be sad indeed, as just today, Nick shared a picture on Snapchat that shows that he has set up a mini-shrine to Harry in his living room!
