After wrapping up the Bundesliga title three seasons in a row, Bayern Munich will be eager to give manager Pep Guardiola a fond farewell by winning their third DFB Pokal title in four years. In recent seasons, winning the domestic double has become almost of a recurring habit for Bayern Munich, and having been knocked out in the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League this season, Guardiola will hope that he can lay his hands on one more trophy before his time in Germany draws to a close.
Bayern Munich have won the DFB Pokal a record 17 times in their history, having won eight finals since the turn of the millennium, reports Bleacher Report. Having scored 12 goals and conceded only two, Bayern have rolled teams over on their way to the final, but the Bavarians needed a Xabi Alonso wonder goal against Darmstadt and an Arturo Vidal dive against Werder Bremen to help make their third appearance at Berlin’s iconic Olympiastadion in four years.

But Borussia Dortmund will be formidable opposition for the Bavarians, having had a wonderful season of their own in the Bundesliga finishing second behind Bayern Munich. Pep Guardiola admitted that his team will have its work cut out against what he termed “the best Borussia Dortmund team in history,” but said he expects his team to win the game.
He also paid tribute to his three years in charge at Bayern Munich.
“After winning the treble under Jupp Heynckes, it’s incredible that they have managed to continue playing like that for three years.”
“I am so proud of the consistency of my players.”
Holger Badstuber and Arjen Robben will both the miss the game because of injuries, but Javi Martinez and Xabi Alonso are expected to start against Dortmund having recovered from minor injuries of their own. Former Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze has been ruled out of the game against his former team because of a broken rib, reports BBC.

Borussia Dortmund are no pushovers when it comes to the DFB Pokal, having reached the final for three years in a row. They have also won the trophy three times in their history, with the latest of those wins coming against Bayern Munich in 2012.
Moreover, Dortmund have shown immense mental strength this season in the Bundesliga, having amassed 32 more points than they did in the previous season, helping them finish five places higher in second position. A lot of credit for the team’s upheaval of fortunes goes to the manager Thomas Tuchel, who has been instrumental in building the team’s success, and he reckons his team can beat Bayern Munich to lift the DFB Pokal for the fourth time in history.
“We’ve come on really well this season and the biggest compliment has got to be paid to the players.”
“We’ve got the quality to beat Bayern.”

The match promises to be an especially emotional affair for Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels, who has signed a contract that will see him make the summer move to rivals Bayern Munich.
Dortmund will be without defensive midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who is recovering from a dislocated knee and is expected to follow Pep Guardiola to Manchester City during the summer, but winger Marco Reus should recover in time from a cold for the game against Bayern Munich.
