Jason McCourty, Tennessee Titans Agree To 5-Year, $43 Million Deal

ESPN is reporting that the Tennessee Titans and cornerback Jason McCourty have agreed to a five-year, $43 million deal that will keep him with the team through the 2017 season. The extension includes $20 in guaranteed money and bonuses, according to the report by NFL insider Adam Schefter.

USA Today notes that the Titans and McCourty’s agent, Andy Simms, began working on a contract extension earlier this summer. The two sides continued to work on the contract in recent weeks, and the deal was finalized shortly before the Titans faced off against the Arizona Cardinals in the team’s third game of the preseason on Thursday (August 23).

Prior to the contract, McCourty was slated to become a free agent after the 2012 season, the fourth and final year of his rookie contract.

McCourty, who was selected from Rutgers in the sixth round of the 2009 NFL Draft, set a career high with 107 tackles in 2011 and he ranked second on the team. He also lead the team with 13 passes defensed, tied with two interceptions, and scored his first career touchdown after recovering a blocked punt in the end zone October 20 against Indianapolis.

For his career, the 25-year-old has recorded 179 tackles, four interceptions, one sack and forced two fumbles. Rant Sports points out Jason is also a guy that will play special teams and has recorded 16 tackles as a member of the unit.
