Harry Styles and his new hair are hard at work on Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk movie, and One Direction fans couldn’t be more excited. However, the World War II action-thriller isn’t the only upcoming film that Directioners are looking forward to. The male lead has finally been cast for After, a movie based on author Anna Todd’s erotic Harry Styles fanfic. So does the short-haired star of After look anything like Harry without his long locks?
As Teen Vogue reports, filming on Dunkirk began on May 14, and Harry Styles was recently photographed on-set in France. Harry is wearing military attire in the photos, and his shorter haircut blends in with the background. However, it’s clear that his curls are gone. People who aren’t wearing costumes are milling around him, so he probably wasn’t shooting a scene when the photos were taken.

Australian DJ Angus O’Loughlin obtained another photo of Harry Styles on the Dunkirk set that gives fans a closer look at Harry’s new hairstyle, which Contact Music describes as “a classic short back and sides – a style popular among both hipsters and World War 2 troops.” As the Inquisitr previously reported, Harry donated the hair that he cut off to a charity that makes wigs for children who lost their hair during cancer treatment.

According to the Wrap, Harry Styles’ Dunkirk co-stars include Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance, and Kenneth Branagh. This certainly isn’t bad company for Harry’s first film, and he’ll likely learn a lot about acting from these seasoned stars.
Dunkirk is about the World War II evacuation of Allied soldiers from Dunkirk, France. The historical action-thriller isn’t the type of movie that teen girls usually flock to see, but Unreality TV reports that One Direction fans have already been tweeting up a frenzy about the film. However, most of them are more interested in seeing set photos of Harry Styles’ new hairstyle than they are in learning about how Operation: Dynamo saved the lives of 330,000 Allied soldiers.
One Direction fans aren’t just looking forward to seeing Harry Styles in his first acting role — they’re also looking forward to watching an attractive actor play the character formerly known as Harry Styles in the upcoming After movie. On May 15, After author Anna Todd tweeted a Sugarscape article about the potential casting of Daniel Sharman as Hardin Scott, the bad boy character that used to share Harry Styles’ name. Anna Todd had to change his moniker when she turned her Wattpad fanfics into a series of novels.
In a YouTube video, Susan McMartin, the movie’s producer and screenwriter, reveals that she met with Daniel Sharman, and she seems pretty certain that the Teen Wolf star will sign on to play Hardin.
“It was fantastic meeting Daniel in person. He’s as beautiful and as wonderful and as amazing as you would expect,” McMartin says. “And I hope that soon we are making the big announcement that he will be playing Hardin.”
In her After fanfic, Anna Todd re-imagines Harry Styles as a hard-drinking frat boy who begins a lust-hate relationship with a naive virgin named Tessa Young. Both lead characters are definitely flawed — Tessa cheats on her sweet and loving boyfriend with Harry/Hardin, and she soon finds out that her new love interest is violent, possessive, and emotionally abusive. However, no matter how hard they try, Tessa and Harry/Hardin just can’t seem to end their toxic relationship for good. There are a lot of steamy sex scenes, tons of tears, and an exhausting amount of ugly arguments.
Because the main male character in After is based on Harry Styles, fans want someone who looks similar to the One Direction star to play the part. Daniel Sharman has a different facial structure and different eye color, but The Originals actor’s hair is very similar to Harry’s.
So, One Direction fans, which are you looking forward to more: seeing Harry Styles act in Dunkirk or watching Daniel Sharman play Hardin Scott in After?
