Katherine Heigl Says Media Scrutiny From ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Days Made Her ‘Feel Like Sh*t’ And Seek Therapy

Katherine Heigl reveals she was traumatized and sought professional help after Grey’s Anatomy controversy, according to Vanity Fair. It was the media’s scrutiny over Heigl’s decision to withdraw her nomination at the Emmy Awards in 2008 for her role in Grey’s Anatomy that prompted the actress to seek therapy.

In her recent interview with Vanity Fair, Katherine Heigl finally, after eight years, spoke out about her rather controversial behavior in 2008. The 37-year-old Ugly Truth actress described this period of her life, saying her career “betrayed” her.

It was the year when Katherine Heigl was called difficult to work with after her decision to withdraw her Emmy nomination because she didn’t agree that Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Shonda Rhimes had given her enough material to get an Emmy nod.

And now, over eight years after Katherine Heigl made headlines, the Grey’s Anatomy actress made a guest appearance on Howard Stern’s Sirius radio show to clarify her position as well as open up about the consequences of all the media’s attention after the scandalous incident.

In particular, Katherine Heigl clarified her 2008 statements, arguing that it wasn’t her intention to throw mud at the material given by Rhimes on Grey’s Anatomy. Instead, Heigl claims it was actually her performance that she criticized.

“I didn’t feel good about my performance… and there was a part of me that thought, because I had won the year before, that I needed juicy, dramatic, emotional material.”

The Emmy-winning actress explained that she “wasn’t feeling good” about her work that season. Katherine Heigl also added that she apologized to Rhimes personally after the media put Heigl’s remarks under the spotlight in 2008, because she was “really embarrassed.”

“So I went in to [see] Shonda and said, ‘I’m so sorry. That wasn’t cool, and I should not have said that.'”

Looking back at 2008 and the consequences of her scandalous statements, Katherine Heigl says she shouldn’t have made any statements publicly in the first place. But the actress explained her decision to go to the press, saying she didn’t think the media would really notice it.

Katherine Heigl wanted to simply not submit her material at the Emmys quietly, but then it all suddenly became one of the hottest entertainment topics of 2008. So the actress took it upon herself to make the statements publicly. But now the actress realizes that she should have just said to herself, “Shut up, Katie.”

In fact, these events were so traumatizing and depressing for Katherine Heigl that she even sought professional help. It was the media’s scrutiny that pushed her to start therapy, as the actress says she failed to handle it well.

“I was feeling completely like the biggest piece of sh*t on the bottom of your shoe.”

Katherine Heigl added that she found it difficult to not take all the media’s comments about her personally, and she was even led to believe that there was something “deeply wrong” with her.

However, Katherine Heigl admitted that she hasn’t done daily therapy sessions since 2008. In fact, she has only done “about five” therapy sessions in her entire life, the actress revealed.

In other news, Katherine Heigl has become yet another example that proves that long hair is not trendy anymore, according to Bustle. It’s ultra short hairstyles that currently rock Hollywood trends.

Katherine Heigl, who unveiled her very short haircut via Instagram, is not the first Hollywood celebrity to rock such a hair transformation. Just recently, such stars as Jennifer Lawrence, Kristen Stewart, and Emma Roberts recently boasted their super short hairstyles, setting a new beauty trend in Hollywood.
