Emma Watson Wears Dress Made Of Trash To Met Gala


Fashion is an industry that can leave individuals scratching their heads as to what is most fashionable and what can be considered to be luxury today. The Met Gala brought out fashionistas and fashionistos from across the globe and along with them came some remarkable designs.

Among these stars, Emma Watson continued to do her part to advocate for one of the many causes the actress supports. As her fashion choice, Watson stepped onto the red carpet wearing an ensemble that was primarily produced from plastic bottles. The activist wore a custom-made Calvin Klein dress and was happy to share with CNN about her choice of fashion statement for the event.

Watson shared that luxury is all a state of mind, and that if hers was not at ease due to unethically sourced garments, she is not in support of it.

“Luxury to me means peace of mind.”

Luckily the dress from the well-known fashion house incorporated sustainable fashion that Watson can get behind and throw on. CNN relays the details about Emma’s choice of dress for the evening at the Met.

“For the past few years, Watson has resolved that all of her red carpet appearances incorporate sustainable fashion. In the case of the Met gala, this meant the majority of the fabric used was made from Newlife, a yarn made from 100 percent post-consumer plastic bottles; and the detailing on the bustier was made with organic silk and cotton.”

The Harry Potter actress has definitely had a busy few years, not only as a beauty on the big screen, but additionally due to all of her hard work as a human rights and feminist activist. Watson launched the groundbreaking #heforshe campaign at the United Nations back in 2014 where she gave a speech that resulted in drawing over 1 billion impressions on social media. The star was then formally made a UN ambassador for her efforts with the campaign and her stance on the issue of gender equality.

Interestingly enough, Emma’s choice to wear sustainable luxury ensembles is also connected to her advocacy for feminism, as the news network relays.

“‘This is absolutely a feminist issue,’ she says of sustainable fashion, noting that most factories today exploit female workers.”

Emma Watson was sure to share that she saw first hand how different the quality of life is for the female factory workers, when she traveled to Bangladesh at the age of 19 and met a worker who was her own age. The star shared that this was a turning point for her.

In the near future fans can catch the beauty as the fitting Disney character Belle from the beloved film Beauty and the Beast. However, for now the star is committed to activism and jokingly indicates that she is “Changing the world one dress at a time.”

One upcoming charitable event that Watson will be involved in is Red Nose Day. Hollywood Reporter shares about the history of the fundraising event that will include Watson along with a star-studded cast.

“Created by Oscar nominated writer-director Richard Curtis (Love Actually, Four Weddings and a Funeral), Red Nose Day is a fundraising campaign dedicated to lifting kids out of poverty. Run by Comic Relief, Red Nose Day became a cultural phenomenon in the U.K. and has raised more than $1 billion globally in the last 25 years. The campaign came to the U.S. for the first time in 2015, and raised more than $23 million, with the money at work in all 50 states and 15 countries internationally in programs to keep children and young people safe, healthy and educated.”

The cause is certainly one worth backing and Emma Watson is all about doing her part.
